Electoral bonds: DMK lists Future Gaming, Megha Engg as top donors
Future Gaming and Hotel Services donated Rs 509 crore to the DMK through electoral bonds since 2019-20, with Megha Engineering & Infrastructures contributing another Rs 40 crore to Tamil Nadu's ruling party, showed data released by the Election Commission of India on Sunday. The latest information is based on disclosures of donors' names by a few political parties to the poll panel. Most beneficiaries of the electoral bonds scheme, including the BJP, All India Trinamool Congress, Congress, BRS and BJD, did not disclose the names of donors. While Future Gaming was the top buyer of electoral bonds, Megha Engineering was the second biggest, data from the commission revealed earlier.

Got Rs 10 cr electoral bonds anonymously, encashed it: JD (U) to EC
Election Commission that someone delivered to its office an envelope with electoral bonds worth Rs 10 crore way back in 2019, which it encashed within days but has got no information on the donors. As the Election Commission on Sunday made public hundreds of sealed-cover disclosures submitted to it by various political parties, filings made by Bihar's ruling party showed that it got electoral bonds totalling more than Rs 24 crore. The party also disclosed the names of Bharti Airtel and Shree Cement as its donors for bonds with Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively. In another filing, the JD(U) disclosed donations totalling Rs 24.4 crore through these bonds, many of which were issued from SBI branches in Hyderabad and Kolkata, and a few were issued in Patna.

NTA to hold CUET UG 2024 between May 15-31; datesheet to be out after March 26: UGC
National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG) between May 15 and 31, University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman, Mamidala K Jagadesh, said on Sunday, adding that the datesheet for the examination will be announced after March 26. The UGC chairman addressed concerns about CUET-UG exam dates coinciding with Lok Sabha elections on May 20 and 25, saying the date sheet would be announced considering the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution. The NTA launched the CUET UG 2024 online application portal on February 27. Students who are appearing for the Class 12 board examinations can apply for the Common University Entrance Test 2024 for various undergraduate courses through the official online portal at exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG.

LS polls: Licensed arms holders in Bandipora asked to deposit arms within seven days
District Election Officer, Bandipora, Shakeel ul Rehman, on Sunday directed all licensed arms holders to deposit their arms at the nearest police stations within seven days in view of the Lok Sabha elections. «The district magistrate in an order vide No. 35- DMB of 2024 dated: 17-03-2024 directed all the civilians and forces personnel (retired and serving) presently residing within the territorial jurisdiction of District Bandipora and who are in possession of arms and ammunition on a vaild arms licence shall deposit their arms and ammunition in the concerned police stations within a period of seven days from the date of issuance of the order.» an official spokesman said here. The spokesman said this measure is for preventive law and order action to ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the Lok Sabha elections. The district magistrate said that prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC had come into force with effect from March 16, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s Model Code of Conduct.
