UP Legislative Council polls: 10 NDA, 3 SP candidates elected unopposed
biennial elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council here on Thursday. Thursday was the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. The elected candidates were also presented certificates, special secretary to the UP Vidhan Sabha B B Dubey told PTI. India’s demand for diesel, petrol to increase further this year: S&P Global
NEW DELHI : India’s demand for petroleum products, particularly diesel, will spike this year on increased industrial and construction activity, as well as because of the upcoming national election that’s held once in five years, as per S&P Global Commodity Insights. Demand for petroleum products in 2024 is likely to grow by about 206,000 barrels per day, with gasoil (diesel) and gasoline (petrol) accounting for about 65% of the growth, S&P Global said in a report. In February, India’s demand for petroleum products increased by 132,000 barrels per day (bpd), or 2.4%, year-on-year, and by 256,000 bpd from January.

Supreme Court on Thursday sought response of the Nationalist Congress Party faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on a plea of the Sharad Pawar group alleging misuse of his name and pictures for political gains. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan asked the Ajit Pawar faction to file its response by Saturday to Sharad Pawar's plea and fixed it for further hearing on March 19. «We need a categorical and unconditional undertaking that the name, pictures of Sharad Pawar will not be used,» the bench said. Earlier, the top court had directed that the Election Commission's order of February 7 allotting 'Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar' as the party name for the Sharad Pawar faction will continue till further orders.
