Nifty companies' Dec quarter profit may grow in double digits
growth in aggregate net profit for the third consecutive three-month period, ETIG estimates for the December quarter showed, although muted performance of technology and consumer-goods companies could decelerate the pace of expansion. Net profit in the December 2023 quarter for the Nifty 50 constituents is expected to climb 15%, compared with 7.6% growth in the year-ago period. To be sure, the year-on-year profit growth was above 25% in each of the two previous quarters, reflecting the base effect. Aggregate revenue is expected to climb 8.5%, compared with the growth of 6.8% and 18.4% in the previous and year-ago quarters, respectively.

NEW DELHI : The interim budget on 1 February is likely to increase the tax rebate under the new personal income tax regime, two people close to the discussions said, giving relief for the middle class ahead of the approaching general elections. The plan is to raise the tax rebate, which is now available for income up to ₹7 lakh, to about ₹7.5 lakh under the new regime, the people said on the condition of anonymity. Tax rebate eligibility is calculated on the net income after taking into account standard deduction of ₹50,000.

Nomination papers of 76 per cent of PTI candidates accepted: ECP tells Pakistan's apex court
Supreme Court that nomination papers of 76 per cent of candidates of jailed former premier Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party were accepted for the February 8 general elections. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) submitted the data in response to a contempt petition filed by the PTI party that the electoral body had not followed a direction by the apex court to address its concerns about the lack of a level playing field in the run-up to polls. The ECP stated that 598 out of a total of 843 nomination papers of PTI candidates for the National Assembly were accepted, while another 1,398 out of 1,777 candidatures for provincial assemblies were approved.
