Vi allows users to choose benefits in rejigged postpaid structure
postpaid segment, Vodafone Idea has rejigged its postpaid plan structure with a feature called Vi Max which allows the customers choose the benefits they want with their plan. The new plans are available as individual and family plans with the choice of benefits across four major segments – entertainment, food, travel, and mobile security, the cash-strapped telco said in a statement Saturday. “Vi Max is not only about connectivity but also designed with an intent to empower our valued customers to determine the features that are most useful for an optimal experience as well as value for money,” Avneesh Khosla, chief marketing officer, Vi said in the statement. All plans will continue to offer use of Vi’s content features like Vi Games, Vi Music, Vi Jobs & Education, Vi Movies & TV, in addition to features like ‘set your own limit’ which allows users to set the credit limit on their account, and priority customer service. Vi’s partners for these benefits include Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, SonyLiv, and SunNXT in entertainment, EazyDiner in the food category, EaseMyTrip and MakeMyTrip in the travel category, Norton Anti-Virus in the security category. Since mobile usage patterns differ from person to person as per their requirement, choice allows the users the ability to choose their preferred benefits across the four segments, the telco said in a media statement. So far, telcos have offered higher priced postpaid plans with multiple benefits across OTT content platforms and subscriptions to digital services, but they have been pre-bundled with no choice in choosing the benefit to avail. The number of benefits customers can choose from while using Vi Max depends on the price of the plan.

Blue Bloods Season 14: Here’s what we know so far
Blue Bloods fans will have to wait longer than expected for season 14 due to ongoing strikes. As of August 2023, neither the writing nor filming of the new season has begun. Both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are on strike, unable to reach agreements with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on new contracts. The strikes have brought the entertainment industry to a standstill, affecting many beloved shows, including Blue Bloods. As writers and actors in these unions have been prohibited from working on AMPTP-contracted projects since May and July, respectively, the production of Blue Bloods season 14 has been put on hold. Fans eagerly awaiting a release date for the new season will have to remain patient. Due to the strikes, no progress has been made in preparing for the season, making it unlikely that any updates on a release date will surface until later in the year. It's anticipated that the season may not air until 2024. However, CBS will continue to air rerun episodes of the show on Fridays as per its schedule.

SC judge P K Mishra recuses from hearing Satyendar Jain's interim bail plea in money laundering case
Supreme Court judge P K Mishra on Friday recused himself from hearing the bail plea of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Jain on May 30 last year on the charge of laundering money through four companies allegedly linked to him. As the matter came before the bench headed by Justice A S Bopanna, he told senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Jain, that it would not be able to take up the matter. «We are unable to take it up before this bench,» Justice Bopanna said. The bench directed that the matter be placed before Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud to get appropriate orders for reassignment to a bench. «Obtain orders from the Chief Justice to place it before a bench of which one of us (Justice Mishra) is not a part,» Justice Bopanna said.

Viacom18 picks up BCCI media rights for ₹ 5.9kcr
BCCI’s international bilateral cricket matches held in India as well as domestic competitions for ₹5,963 crore for a period of five years to 2028. The bid, however, is lower by ₹175 crore than the ₹6,138 crore Disney Star had paid for the previous fiveyear cycle, a sign that the value of bilateral cricket will be under pressure due to declining viewer interest in the Test and ODI formats. It translates to a payout of ₹67.76 crore per match, about 10% higher than in the previous cycle that had more matches. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said Thursday's e-auction has propelled BCCI into the upper echelons of permatch media rights valuation. “Throughout this process, we have steadfastly upheld the principles of transparency and fairness, ensuring that all stakeholders are treated equitably,” he said. Sources close to the development said Viacom18 bid ₹3,101 crore for digital rights and ₹2,862 crore for TV rights, with the difference between the two sets of rights being a mere ₹239 crore. They added that Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) was the only other bidder in the fray as Disney Star sat out of the e-auction, having already committed $4.5 billion for Indian Premier League (IPL) TV rights and International Cricket Council (ICC) digital rights. One of the sources said Sony's bid of ₹5,863 crore was ₹100 crore lower than Viacom18's bid.
