Reliance, Disney may announce Star-Viacom18 merger this week
Reliance Industries and the Walt Disney Company have signed a binding agreement to merge Viacom18 and Star India, with the deal expected to be announced early this week, people privy to the development told ET. The deal, which has been in the works for over four months, will create India's largest media empire, spanning TV broadcasting, streaming, movies and sports. The two media companies generated revenue of ₹25,000 crore between them in FY23. «The merger deal has finally been signed after months of negotiations. The announcement will happen early this week. It was expected to happen late last week,» a top executive told ET on the condition of anonymity. According to another person, Reliance may own 61% of the proposed combined company, with Disney holding 33% and Bodhi Tree Systems having the remaining 6%.

Savvy Group emerges highest bidder to develop GIFT City’s largest commercial project
real estate developer Savvy Group has emerged as the highest bidder to develop the GIFT Special Economic Zone’s largest commercial and recreational project, including an innovation and startups hub, spread over a total 2.8 million sq ft with a total investment of over Rs 1,200 crore. The company has pipped three other bidders to bag the proposed project that surpasses all existing developments within the GIFT City, which previously boasted the largest development covering a million sq ft. This is the first project conceived by the GIFT City authority following the recent declaration by the Gujarat government to grant an exemption to GIFT City from a long-standing liquor prohibition law dating back 63 years. This exemption aims to bolster the city's appeal to foreign corporations, encouraging increased investment in the region.

MCA asks Sebi to share details on Zee, could summon Puneet Goenka
Corporate Affairs (MCA), which is investigating Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) over alleged corporate governance violations, has written to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) seeking details on its latest findings on fund diversion that have been cited in media reports, said people aware of the matter. The ministry's preliminary probe had found appropriation of ZEEL's fixed deposits (FDs) by Yes Bank, for squaring off loans of related entities of Essel Group. ZEEL is part of the Essel Group promoted by Subhash Chandra and his family. Since 2019, both the MCA and Sebi have been investigating the group over allegations levelled by independent directors. While the MCA is probing allegations pertaining to violations under the Companies Act, 2013, Sebi is investigating accusations of capital market breaches. Their probes had found that FDs of Rs 200 crore were appropriated by Yes Bank for settling loans of related parties of Essel Group.

ZEE board forms advisory panel to curb ‘erosion of investor wealth’
NEW DELHI : ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd is establishing an advisory committee to help it protect the interests of stakeholders amid what it said were misinformation and rumours resulting in negative public opinion about the company. “The board has approved to constitute an independent advisory committee that will enable it to review and take cognizance of the widespread circulation of misinformation, market rumours, and speculation that has led to the formation of negative public opinion about the company and consequent erosion of investor wealth," the company said in a statement on Friday. The committee will be presided by Satish Chandra, a former judge of the Allahabad High Court, and will comprise two independent directors of the company, Uttam Prakash Agarwal and P.
