US Elections 2024: Key swing states expected for recounts and their potential impact on outcome
Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in critical swing states. Experts believe that narrow margins in these battlegrounds could lead to recounts, especially if vote tallies fall within the threshold triggering an automatic or candidate-requested recount. Key states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, which determined the election’s outcome in 2020, are once again in focus, with both candidates showing neck-and-neck numbers, as mentioned in a report by Forbes.

'No proposal under consideration': Defence Ministry on penalties reported to be issued on GE over fighter jet engines delay
Defence Ministry on Tuesday issued a clarification on possible penalties that could be imposed on General Electric Co. for severe delays in the delivery of jet engines that power the country’s light-combat aircraft. «It has been noted that some media organisations have carried a story that India plans to impose penalties on General Electric for delay in delivery of Tejas engines. The story is factually incorrect as there was no such proposal under consideration. The contract is between HAL and GE,» said a defence ministry official. Just last year, GE had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hindustan Aeronautics to produce an advanced version of the jet engines for India’s next generation light-combat aircraft.

Centre can deduct outstanding payments from states getting benefits of PM e-bus
PM E-Bus scheme through a Direct Debit Mandate (DDM) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to the PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme, notified by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), states getting electric buses (e-buses) through this route will permit the centre to recover overdue amounts. Procurement and operation of e-buses by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs) is supported under the PM e-Bus PSM scheme. These buses are handed over to state government or union territory-controlled PTAs to operate them and recover costs through fares. Since the PTAs are in poor financial health, bus suppliers fear they will not be paid by the states. The PSM scheme addresses concerns of e-bus suppliers by ensuring timely payments to operators through a dedicated fund. In case of payment default by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), the implementing agency, shall make necessary payments from the scheme funds which will be later recouped by the centre.

Wrote many letters to Punjab CM on CBG plants, but nothing happens on ground: Union Min Puri
Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday asserted that Punjab should get fresh investments for setting up compressed biogas (CBG) and ethanol plants, and said he wrote to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann several times, but nothing happened on the ground. Replying to a question on the law and order issue in AAP-ruled Punjab, Puri said if the law and order is not right, then even the existing industry will also leave the state. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Rozgar Mela here, Puri said entrepreneurs in Punjab should be encouraged to set up CBG plants in the state. «I feel pain that CBG plants are increasing in the country, but here (Punjab) CBG plants are finding it hard to run. If a CBG plant is run, it will benefit farmers. If an ethanol plant is set up, it will benefit farmers as they are run on biomass.

World’s fattest cat Crumbs gets admitted to fat loss camp, succumbs to cancer later
Kroshik (meaning “Crumbs”), first gained widespread attention after he was rescued from the basement of a hospital in Russia. He had been fed scraps, biscuits, and soup, leading to his staggering weight of 38 pounds. At a veterinary weight-loss clinic in Perm, Russia, Crumbs made progress, shedding 7 pounds. However, he suddenly developed breathing difficulties and passed away over the weekend, as reported by NewsX. Vets at the clinic suspect his dense fat deposits masked cancerous growths on his spleen and other organs, making them difficult to detect in scans. Galiana More, who manages the Matroskin cat shelter where Crumbs was treated, believes the tumors triggered multi-organ failure. An official cause of death is pending the results of a full post-mortem exam, scheduled for Monday. Even with this exam, determining whether Crumbs' health issues stemmed primarily from his weight or the hidden tumors remains challenging, according to More. “In cases of such extensive organ failure, the body often cannot keep up, though Kroshik fought hard,” she explained.

Sandip Sabharwal on safe sparklers, high-risk rockets and value bombs for this Dhanteras
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says while there is nothing safe in the market, IDFC First Bank stocks can be the relatively safe sparklers. For those willing to take higher risks, Ahluwalia Contracts can be the high-risk rockets while InterGlobe Aviation or IndiGo can be the perfect value bomb. This Dhanteras, which safe sparkler or safe bets should one look at? Sandip Sabharwal: Now, there is nothing safe in the stock market as such. It is all about relative safeness. I think IDFC First Bank is pretty well placed at the current prices. The results which came out over the weekend reflected that there is resilience in the business model. The core business is doing well. When you look at every bank, the key to look at is the asset quality of the bank and the deposit growth quality of the deposit and then the credit growth and the reported profitability. So, in all these parameters, it is doing very well. Its net NPAs are very similar to that of ICICI Bank or HDFC Bank.

PM Modi apologizes to elderly people aged 70 and above in Delhi and West Bengal. Here's why
Narendra Modi Tuesday hit out at Delhi and West Bengal governments for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme out of «political interests» and said he was pained that the elderly from these two states cannot avail free treatment under the expanded programme. The prime minister on Tuesday extended his government's flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. «I apologise to all the elderly aged above 70 years of Delhi and West Bengal that I cannot serve them. I would get to know about your pains and sufferings but I won't be able to help you,» Modi said. «The reason is that the state governments are not implementing the scheme due to their political interests,» he said.

The 29-year-old preacher, known for her teachings on devotion and simplicity has said that she has never advised anybody to renounce anything. She said that she is just a normal girl, living a normal life. A controversy had erupted after she was recently spotted at an airport with the high-end handbag, sparking debate among her followers. The luxury item, recognized as a Dior Book Tote, features a cotton exterior and is allegedly lined with calfskin, details that have fueled backlash given Kishori's messages of non-materialism and detachment. Critics expressed confusion over the apparent contradiction between her expensive tastes and her spiritual teachings. In her defense, Kishori stated, «The bag is a customized piece. There is no leather in it, and the customization means it can be made according to personal wishes. My name is also engraved on it. I have never used leather, nor will I ever.» She further emphasized, «I have never advised anyone to renounce anything. I have not renounced anything myself, so how could I suggest that to others? I am clear from day one that I am not a saint, sadhu, or sadhvi. I am a normal girl, living in a regular house with my family. I encourage the youth to work hard, earn money, and give themselves and their families a good life.»

Uttarakhand HC issues contempt notice to DoPT secretary
Uttarakhand High Court has issued a contempt notice to Dr Vivek Joshi, Secretary Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for allegedly defying its order over the empanelment of an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer with the Centre. Justice Alok Kumar Verma issued the notice to the DoPT on October 23 on a plea filed by IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi who alleged a wilful defiance of the court's order on his empanelment. A division bench of the high court had directed the Central government in September to provide Chaturvedi with his empanelment documents as a joint secretary (JS). He had moved the high court after the Central government passed an order saying the «appointment committee of cabinet had not approved» his empanelment for «holding the post of JS or equivalent at the Centre».

Israeli strike on a five-story building where displaced Palestinians were sheltering in the northern Gaza Strip killed at least 34 people early Tuesday, more than half of them women and children, Gaza's Health Ministry said. In a separate development, Lebanon's militant group Hezbollah said it has chosen Sheikh Naim Kassem as its new top leader following the killing of Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike last month. The group said in a statement that Hezbollah's decision-making Shura Council elected Kassem, who had been Nasrallah's deputy leader for over three decades, as the new secretary-general. Hezbollah vowed to continue with Nasrallah's policies «until victory is achieved.»
