U.S. Justice Department on Monday proposed new rules to protect federal government data or Americans' bulk personal data from getting into the hands of countries like China, Iran and Russia by placing new limits on certain business transactions. The proposal, which was previewed in March, implements an executive order issued earlier this year by President Joe Biden which aims to keep foreign adversaries from using accessible American financial and genomic data and health data for cyber attacks, espionage and blackmail. Bharat Urban Megabus Mission to introduce 100,000 electric buses in all million plus cities in India. The ₹1.75 lakh crore urban mobility mission envisages introduction of electric buses and allied infrastructure, including bus stops, terminals and depots. Apart from introduction of new electric buses, the mission will cover creation of 5,000 kilometres of walking and cycling-friendly streets. The mission will be launched in 2025 and will cover the time till 2029-30 financial year. The Centre wants to increase the share of public transport in motorised trips so that more people start preferring it over taking out their private vehicles. According to sources, the introduction of non-polluting electric vehicles in million plus cities aims to increase public transport mode share to 60% of all motorised trips by 2030 and 80% of all motorised trips by 2036, and non-motorised trips (cycling and walking) being at least 50% of all urban trips by 2030.

ICICI Bank has alerted its customers about an increasing number of parcel fraud scams. These scams involve criminals using psychological tactics to trick people into giving away sensitive personal and financial information. In an email to customers, ICICI Bank explained that scammers pretend to be from the Customs Department or the Police. They contact their targets through phone calls and claim that a parcel in their name contains illegal substances like narcotic drugs. The bank stated, «Scammers use psychological tactics during the calls to threaten the victims and obtain their personal information such as Bank/Card details. They make the victims believe that they are being digitally arrested and ask them to share their sensitive/personal information. They also ask the victims to initiate money transfers to a fake RBI Account and provide their Aadhaar numbers and other identification details apart from the Bank information to steal the money.”

doctors in West Bengal have ended their 16-day hunger strike after a nearly two-hour meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday. The discussions focused on various demands from the medical community, particularly addressing the «threat culture» prevalent in hospitals following the tragic rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in August. During the meeting, streamed live from the state secretariat, Banerjee encouraged the doctors to conclude their fast, stating that most of their demands had been addressed, while rejecting the call to remove the state health secretary. CG Power and Industrial Solutions on Monday reported a nearly 10 per cent decline in its consolidated profit after tax to Rs 220 crore for three months ended September 2024. Its profit after tax (PAT) was Rs 244 crore in the year-ago quarter. Aggregate sales for the quarter increased 21 per cent to Rs 2,413 crore during the July-September quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 2,002 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24, the company said in a stock exchange filing.

The development follows Sanofi and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) entering into exclusive negotiations whereby CD&R Group has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Opella, which holds a 60.4% stake in Sanofi Consumer Healthcare India. The offer is made at a price of Rs 4,982.05 per share, aggregating to a total consideration of up to Rs 2,983.23 crore, according to the offer letter by Citigroup Global Markets India, the manager of the transaction, shared on BSE by Sanofi Consumer Healthcare India.
