Also Read: RBI policy meet: SBI says there could be no rate cut before Q3FY25; here's why According to a majority of analysts and economists on D-Street, the RBI would keep its key repo rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent at the conclusion of the April 3-5 MPC meeting, continuing its stance of ‘withdrawal of accommodation’. However, the recent uptick in crude oil prices over geopolitical conflicts is likely to keep the MPC's focus on inflation and managing the impact of global headwinds, despite record-high economic growth in the previous quarter. SC ordered 2% slip audit in 2019 on parties' petition
Supreme Court's decision to hear a plea seeking complete count of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail paper slips in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls has brought back the focus on the Election Commission of India's rationale in limiting the verification to five randomly selected EVMs. The poll panel has defended its rationale in courts and also found support from experts such as the Indian Statistical Institute which said the random formula was statistically sound. After a petition by over 20 political parties in 2019, SC mandated physical verification of EVM-VVPAT counts in 2% polling booths per constituency. Of the 20,687 polling stations where the mandatory physical verification of VVPAT slips was conducted on SC orders in 2019, eight cases of mismatch were found, which EC said were mainly due to 'easily explainable human errors'. The mismatch estimated at 0.0004% had no impact on the results in all eight cases, EC maintained.

Indian Coast Guard ship Samudra Paheredar, a specialised Pollution Control Vessel, on Tuesday made a port call at Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam as part of its ongoing overseas deployment to the ASEAN countries, officials said. This deployment is a testimony to the ICG's commitment to «bolster bilateral relationships» and «enhance international cooperation» with friendly countries, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. «The deployment of Samudra Paheredar to the ASEAN region reflects India's shared concern and resolve towards marine pollution, promoting safety and security through maritime cooperation. Prior to Ho Chi Minh, the vessel had visited Manila, Philippines, to demonstrate a seamless continuation of diplomatic maritime engagements in the ASEAN region,» it said. The ship is equipped with specialised marine pollution control equipment and a Chetak Helicopter in pollution response configuration, designed to contain and recover spilled oil and augment the operation.
