Football is soulful
spiritual point of view, football is extremely meaningful, soulful and fruitful. Each sincere seeker should pray to the Supreme to make him His football. When we kick a football, the football is at our mercy. The football is the instrument. We kick right, left, forward and backward, and play with it according to our sweet will. Now, look at this football. It is far better than we are. The football does not quarrel with us; it does not fight us. At times, the football, as an instrument, can fail us; the air can leak out… All kinds of problems can come up. But the main wish of the football is to please the football player. We should consider ourselves to be footballs of the Supreme. The earthly football, the leather football is under compulsion to please its master. The football that we kick is under our control, at our mercy. It has become our instrument, and it is pleasing us, although it may not be pleasing us cheerfully. But we should be conscious footballs always trying to please the Supreme cheerfully so that the Supreme can at any moment kick us, shape us, mould us, form us in His own way.

Donald Trump: Resurrection of son of a gun
Donald Trump is now a martyr for the 'cause', no longer an ordinary candidate against Joe Biden. His supporters believe nothing less than the hand of god came between him and the assassin's bullet. Within hours, Republicans were sharing an image of Christ with his hand on Trump's shoulder. Political benefits were instant. Elon Musk endorsed Trump, as did another billionaire. The script flipped: it was the Democrats' demonisation of the Republican candidate that led to the assassination attempt, not the general political tinderbox that American politics has become over the past decade to which Trump has generously contributed, as have fringe Left groups. For the Democrats, an already dicey election just got harder. Internal turmoil is currently their signature tune. Biden has been fighting polls and party leaders to insist he is their best bet even though voters vehemently disagree. Debates on TV channels are a sad reflection on a party seeped in doubt, despair and disarray. Biden hopes the assassination attempt will unite Dems behind him, but the opposite may happen now that Trump is stronger.

Proposal to increase customs duty to 20% on agrochemicals will hurt interests of farmers: Report
CropLife India, which describes itself as an association of 17 R&D driven crop science companies, has claimed in a media release that a proposal towards enhancement of customs duty on agrochemical formulations to 20%; would hurt the interests of the farmers of the country, in terms of higher costs of farming and non-availability of the newer products. «The idea of doubling customs duty was being proposed based on ‘misinformation’; in the last couple of months, about the “huge” formulation imports in the country. However, the actual data of import proves otherwise,» said Croplife in the release. Durgesh Chandra, Secretary General, CropLife Indiasaid,“Imported Formulations hardly constitute 20% of total imports of agrochemicals in India. Theproposal to increase custom duty on formulations will set the wrong precedent, signal uncertainty in ease of doing business, will question the stability of Indian policies and send out wrong signals for both foreign and Indian investment in this sector; apart from not achieving any significant financial benefit for the exchequer”.

View: Attack could exacerbate tensions in US society
assassination attempt on former US President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over the weekend could well be the gamechanger of the 2024 US presidential polls. The picture of Trump with an injured ear, blood streaming down his face but resilient and in fighting spirit — punching the air with a clenched fist — is expected to become the defining image of US politics for some time to come. It presents a stark foil to the image of incumbent President Joe Biden, who is facing ever louder calls to step down from the presidential race given the uncertainties over his age and health. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to “strongly condemn” the assassination bid. “Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people,” the PM posted on X. In the US, both the Republicans and the Democrats have condemned the attack. President Biden spoke to Trump after the incident. “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence… It’s sick,” the President said. “That’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. You cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this,” Biden has been quoted as saying.

West Bengal: LoP Suvendu Adhikari stages dharna outside Raj Bhawan against post-poll violence
Suvendu Adhikari, several BJP leaders and MLAs and leaders held a four-hour dharna in front of Raj Bhawan with post-poll violence victims on Sunday following Calcutta High Court's permission. Meanwhile, LoP, claiming Hindus have been prevented from voting in the last Lok Sabha and recently held bypoll, will launch a portal tomorrow where people who have failed to vote in Lok Sabha, Panchayat and bypolls will be able to register their names. «Stopping a particular community from voting is a crime. Diamond Harbour, Falta, Baduria, and North Bengal's Dinhata and in many other places, Hindus are prevented from voting. It was seen in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, last Panchayat polls and even in bypolls. More than two lakh voters were stopped in bypolls. I will organize a movement against this,» Adhikari said. At least 300 victims of post-poll violence, who are staying in the shelter of BJP today, joined the dharna today. Adhikari, senior leader Tathagata Ray, former BJP MP Arjun Singh, MLAs were present at the dharna. The Calcutta High Court has allowed Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari to hold a peaceful dharna outside Raj Bhavan on July 14 for four hours. Adhikari had sought permission from the Calcutta High Court to hold the dharna with alleged post-poll violence outside Raj Bhawan, where Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held a demonstration in October, 2023 demanding MGNREGA dues for the deprived people.

Argentina seek 'triple crown' but Colombia aim for upset in Copa final
Argentina can become the first South American team to win the 'triple crown' of three straight major tournament titles if they can overcome a formidable Colombia in Sunday's Copa America final. Inspired by Lionel Messi, Argentina followed up their 2021 Copa America title with the World Cup triumph a year later and have advanced with little drama to this weekend's showpiece with the Colombians. Spain are the only other team in international football to have won a World Cup in between two straight continental titles when they clinched Euro wins in 2008 and 2012 either side of the 2010 World Cup.

Is Ukraine losing the war against Russia?
recently reported, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, is still publicly claiming that Ukraine will recover all the territory the Russians conquered, even if he privately knows that this will not happen soon, if at all. His frustration with the lack of progress prompted him to reshuffle the leadership of the armed forces earlier in February. Our charts and maps below show where things stand two years into Russia’s full-scale invasion.

View: Gita is all about family, property and inheritance
Bhagavad Gita is very clear. It appears in the first chapter itself. How do we decide who is an insider in a family, and who is an outsider? Who is mine, and who is not mine? As a warrior, Arjun has no problem killing people. But he has a problem killing family members. Krishna helps him overcome his moral issue by analysing what constitutes family, and how it impacts decision-making. This matters in family businesses today as it did in Mahabharat times. How do we separate the personal from the professional? The Bhagavad Gita has nothing to do with violence or non-violence, duty or caste, as many people proclaim. Arjun is only wondering about the ethics of killing family members, since one is supposed to protect one's family, as per social norm. At its core, the Bhagavad Gita is trying to unravel the meaning and significance behind the possessive adjective 'my' and the possessive pronoun 'mine'. Right at the beginning, Dhritrashtra asks, 'What is happening in the battlefield between my sons and the sons of Pandu?' He does not refer to Pandu's children as his nephews, very clearly establishing that he considers them outsiders. But when Arjun expresses himself, his dilemma is that he sees insiders on both sides of the battlefield. There is no outsider here.

No scope for alliance between Congress, AAP for assembly polls in Haryana, Delhi: Jairam Ramesh
Jairam Ramesh said on Thursday. In an interview with PTI, Ramesh said there is no one formula the INDIA bloc will follow for state elections. The grouping will fight together in states where Congress leaders and other alliance partners agree to such an understanding, he said. Asked whether the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will fight the assembly polls together going forward, Ramesh said the alliance will do so in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. «There is no INDIA 'janbandhan' in Punjab. In Haryana, we had given one seat to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Lok Sabha polls but I don't think that INDIA janbandhan will be there for assembly polls. In Delhi, the AAP itself has said that INDIA janbandhan will not be there for assembly polls,» Ramesh said.
