Meanwhile, the striking Writers Guild of America (WGA) on Thursday urged federal regulators to increase their oversight of the streaming media business, saying Walt Disney, Amazon.com and Netflix had amassed too much power. The guild, which has been on strike since May 2, issued a report arguing that the three companies were poised to become «the new gatekeepers of media» and have abused their positions «to further disadvantage competitors, raise prices for consumers, and push down wages for the creative workforce.» The union urged regulators to block any further consolidation in the industry, «proactively investigate anti-competitive issues and outcomes» and increase regulation and oversight of the streaming business.

RRR, Pushpa, and KGF: Chapter 2, which initially found favour with north Indian audiences, is waning. According to a recent report by multiplex operator PVR Inox, the share of Hindi (dubbed) content has fallen from 28% in Q1 FY23 to just 7% in Q1 FY24. This shift is attributed to a mix of audience fatigue with Hollywood movies, including the Marvel series, as well as fewer south Indian films having nationwide popularity compared to FY23, said industry experts.

As per a report shared by box-office tracking portal Sacnilk.com, the movie is expected to earn more than that of SRK’s previous release, ‘Pathaan’. It could collect more than Rs 50 crore on day one, predicted the website. In contrast, the Deepika Padukone-SRK-John Abraham starrer minted Rs 37 crore on the first day of release in the US. Khan’s last film, the espionage thriller ‘Pathaan’ was a monstrous hit, earning more than Rs 1000 crore worldwide. It also marked his comeback after a five year hiatus.
