Cash at home case: Probe against Justice Yashwant Varma to be a 'fact-finding' inquiry
fact-finding inquiry" into the allegations against Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma. It will conduct a «deeper probe» into the alleged discovery of sizeable cash at the judge's residence. As per the laid down procedure, the Supreme Court in its leading judgement in 2015 said the «inquiry shall be in the nature of a fact-finding inquiry, wherein the judge concerned would be entitled to appear and have his say». 'Not formal judicial inquiry' The judgement, authored by a bench headed by former CJI JS Khehar, made it clear that «it would not be a formal judicial inquiry involving the examination and cross-examination of witnesses and representation by lawyers». The verdict said «the committee shall devise its own procedure consistent with the principles of natural justice». (a), (b), © of judgement The judgement said «after such inquiry, the committee may conclude and report to the CJI that (a) there is no substance in the allegations contained in the complaint, or (b) there is sufficient substance in the allegations...and the misconduct disclosed is so serious that it calls for initiation of proceedings for removal of the judge, or © there is substance in the allegations contained in the complaint but the misconduct disclosed is not of such a serious nature as to call for initiation of proceedings for removal of the judge».

Cash row: Inquiry enters crucial stage; could lead to serious consequences for Justice Varma if misconduct proved
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna constituting a three-member panel to probe the discovery of «four to five semi-burnt sacks» of Indian currency notes after a fire incident at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma, the in-house procedure has entered the crucial second-stage whose findings will decide the fate of the judge. The fire incident at the storeroom of the official residence of Justice Varma on March 14 in posh Lutyens' Delhi locality purportedly led to the discovery of the cash by firefighters and police personnel. The CJI constituted the three-member panel after the Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya in his report dated March 21 and made public on Saturday evening called for a «deeper probe» into the allegations. The three-member inquiry committee formed by the CJI consists of Justices Sheel Nagu (Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court), G S Sandhawalia (Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court) and Karnataka High Court judge Anu Sivaraman. However, no timeline has been fixed for the inquiry committee to conclude the probe.

Donald Trump applauds son Barron’s tech skills, but has he set the bar too low? Netizens react
Donald Trump has never been one to hold back on praising his family, often highlighting the intelligence and achievements of his children. But his recent comments about his youngest son, Barron Trump, have left many people scratching their heads. During an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, Trump expressed amazement at Barron’s «unbelievable aptitude in technology»—after witnessing him turn his laptop back on. The 19-year-old, who is currently studying at New York University's prestigious Stern School of Business, apparently left his father in awe with his ability to access his laptop after it had been turned off. Recalling the moment, Trump shared, “I turn off his laptop, I said, ‘Oh good,’ and I go back five minutes later, he’s got his laptop. I said, ‘How’d you do that?’ ‘None of your business, Dad.’”

CSK vs MI Weather and Pitch Report: How will the surface at Chepauk stadium in Chennai play for today's match?
CSK's star player, MS Dhoni, will once again be in the spotlight as he continues his long-standing association with the team since the IPL's inception in 2008. In contrast, Mumbai Indians will miss the services of their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, who is still recovering from a back injury. His absence is a significant blow to MI, especially in the death overs, leaving the team to experiment with alternative options and strategies. ALSO READ: Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians predicted playing XIs, head to head record Additionally, MI will be without their regular captain, Hardik Pandya, who is serving a one-match ban due to a slow over-rate in last season's final match. Suryakumar Yadav, the India T20I captain, will lead MI in this opener. For CSK, the selection dilemma lies in choosing an opening partner for Ruturaj Gaikwad, with either Rachin Ravindra or Devon Conway likely to fill the spot. The middle order will include Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube, Hooda, Vijay Shankar, followed by Dhoni and Jadeja. CSK’s recent good record against Mumbai, including four wins in the last five encounters, will boost their confidence.

'Mumbai Police's conduct raised suspicions,' says former Bihar DGP on Sushant Singh Rajput's death
He, however, refrained from commenting on the CBI's closure report, saying it's a «professional agency». Speaking on the initial investigation into the actor's death, Pandey alleged that the Mumbai Police «did not cooperate» with the Bihar Police team sent to investigate the case. He claimed that an IPS officer he sent for better coordination was quarantined, and the Bihar Police team was turned away after just five days. The then Bihar DGP also clarified that he «never claimed» that the actor was murdered, but only that his death was «suspicious» and wanted a thorough investigation. Speaking to ANI, Pandey stated, «When news of Sushant Singh Rajput's death came, the matter died down within 20 days. After 20 days, his father lodged a case in Patna for the investigation of which a team was sent. But Maharashtra Police did not cooperate. I sent an IPS officer for better coordination. But quarantined him...I don't need to be biased against anyone but during that time, the kind of conduct that was displayed by Mumbai Police caused suspicions in the minds of people in the country.»

Cash-discovery row: Delhi HC CJ's report, police video prompt CJI to set up in-house inquiry panel
Yashwant Varma's residence and preliminary findings of the Delhi High Court chief justice calling for a «deeper probe» have prompted Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to constitute a committee to conduct an in-house inquiry into the allegations against the judge. In an unprecedented move, the top court, late on Saturday evening, uploaded on its website the inquiry report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya — complete with photos and videos — regarding the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash from the residence of Justice Varma, a judge in the high court. Justice Upadhyaya's report to the CJI contains material with regard to official communication that says four to five semi-burnt sacks of Indian currency notes were found from the judge's Lutyens' Delhi residence. «On examining the incident reported, the material available and the response of Justice Yashwant Varma, what I find is that the Commissioner of Police in his report dated March 16, 2025 has reported that as per the guard posted at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, the debris and other partially-burnt articles were removed from the room where the fire had broken out in the morning of March 15, 2025… »Accordingly, I am of the prima facie opinion that the entire matter warrants a deeper probe," Justice Upadhyaya has said said in his report dated March 21 and made public on Saturday evening.

vacuum flasks and aluminium foil, during the month so far to guard domestic players from cheap imports from the neighbouring country. These duties were imposed as these products — Soft Ferrite Cores, certain thickness of vacuum insulated flask, aluminium foil, and Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid — were exported to India from China at below normal prices. In separate notifications, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Department of Revenue, said that the duty imposed «shall be levied for a period of five years» on imports of Soft Ferrite Cores, vacuum insulated flask, and Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid. The anti-dumping duty of up to USD 873 per tonne was imposed provisionally on aluminium foil for six months. The government has imposed the duty in the range of USD 276 per tonne to USD USD 986 per tonne on imports of the acid (a water treatment chemical) from China and Japan. On imports of Soft Ferrite Cores (used in electric vehicles, chargers, and telecom devices), up to 35 per cent duty was imposed on CIF (cost, insurance freight) value.

LeBron James returns from 7-game injury absence, and nothing else goes right in Lakers' blowout loss
Los Angeles Lakers down the stretch toward the postseason. And then almost nothing else went right for the Lakers during a 146-115 thrashing from the Chicago Bulls. «We've got to play better basketball than we did tonight, and what we did on our last road trip,» James said before the Lakers headed out on a four-game trip beginning in Orlando on Monday. James scored 17 points after missing the Lakers' previous seven games with a strained left groin, but the top scorer in NBA history looked rusty in certain moments — particularly late in the first quarter, when he threw a long sideline inbounds pass that curled out of bounds without ever getting close to one of his teammates. But James' return was just one part of a comprehensively poor effort by the Lakers, who took their second straight loss and hit the latest trough in their peaks-and-valleys season since acquiring Luka Doncic.

Legacy apparel grapples with GeNext rebellion as Gen Z opts for style & value over tags
Boxy shirts, Korean pants, oversized tees and cargos for boys. Gen Zs have aunique way of dressing up. Some 20 brands launched in the past five years and aimed squarely at the social media generation — from Freakins and Bonkers Corner to Urbanic and Newme— are already nibbling into the sales of established rivals such as Zara and H&M in India. Gen Z, the largest consumer cohort, isn’t brand conscious or loyal either, which is hurting global labels. Its members, between the ages of 13 and 28 years, frequently experiment with attire, from head to toe. Also, money isn’t a factor as most of these upcoming brands have price tags of Rs 500-800, almost half that of their rivals.
