INS Kirpan to Vietnam in reflection of growing bilateral strategic and defence partnership amid common concerns over China's increasingly aggressive behaviour in the South China Sea. It is for the first time that India handed over a fully operational corvette to any friendly foreign country, officials said. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, currently on an official visit to Vietnam, presided over the ceremony at Vietnamese deep water bay of Cam Ranh where the frontline warship was handed over to Vietnam People's Navy. The Indian Navy said the ship has been handed over to Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) with complete «weapon complement». «Today's handing-over ceremony symbolises the deep-rooted friendship and strategic partnership between India and Vietnam,» Admiral Kumar said in his address at the event. «What makes this occasion even more significant is the fact that this is the first-ever occasion that India is offering a fully-operational Corvette to any friendly foreign country,» he said. The Navy Chief said the transfer of INS Kirpan to the Vietnam People's Navy resonates with India's G20 vision of «Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One Earth, One Family, One Future.»

Taiwan is looking to buy National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMS, from the United States to upgrade its air defence capabilities having seen how well they work in Ukraine, the island's defence minister said on Tuesday. China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has stepped up military and political pressure over the past three years to try to force the democratically governed island to accept Beijing's rule. NASAMS have been provided by the United States for use in Ukraine, with USA officials saying they have had a 100% success rate in intercepting Russian missiles. The system, developed and built by Raytheon Technologies and Norway's Kongsberg Gruppen is a short- to medium-range ground-based air defence system that protects against drone, missile, and aircraft attack, which both Canada and Lithuania have also bought, or are buying for Ukraine. Asked on the sidelines of parliament about Taiwan buying NASAMS, Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said «certainly» there was a proposal to get them.

President Joe Biden is heading to South Carolina to make the case that his economic agenda is helping keep even red states humming

Joe Biden will announce a $60 million investment from Enphase Energy Inc, a manufacturer of solar-energy equipment when he travels Thursday to South Carolina, according to a report published by Bloomberg.  With this move, around 1,800 new jobs will be created across the United States including 600 in South California between Enphase and its partner multinational manufacturing giant Flex Ltd, the White House said in an official statement.  Enphase aims to open up six new manufacturing lines, bolstering clean-energy supply chains and helping power as many as one million homes per year with solar energy, Bloomberg reported.  The manufacturer's visit to South California comes as the US President is heightening his reelection campaign with a series of events to champion his administration’s accomplishments — in particular his economic agenda, which the White House has taken to calling Bidenomics.  He has been highlighting his efforts to create manufacturing jobs in the US as a centerpiece of his efforts, boosted in part by legislation he signed into law including the $370 billion Inflation Reduction Act and the $52 billion CHIPS and Science Act. Joe Biden argued that those laws will bring deep and lasting changes to the American economy, yet despite a boom in factory construction, many of those facilities won’t come online for years, a challenge for a president whose economic record will be central to his reelection prospects.
