Marico on course to deliver double-digit constant currency growth in international business: Saugata Gupta
Saugata Gupta, MD & CEO, Marico, says “we have lost market share in the bottom of the pyramid segment in value-added hair oils, where there has been significant competitive intensity. Otherwise, in most of the categories, we have gained market share. What is also heartening is that we have continued to grow in our core brands as well as food, Parachute and all and also the premium part of value-added hair oils.” The commentary around rural recovery is gaining ground. What has been your reading with respect to how things are on the ground right now, especially on the rural front? Saugata Gupta: Last year, it was a combination of two factors. Obviously, rural demand was stressed. The premium part of the portfolio continued to grow. Having said that, we also saw a little bit of moderation in urban growth towards the second half of the year. What we now see is a slight uptick in rural growth towards the end of the quarter. The second thing which also happened is, at least in our portfolio, there was a lot of deflation in pricing that happened, a combination of price drops we took on Parachute and Saffola, as well as significant shrinkflation that happened in the value-added hair oils portfolio.

UK retail sales dip in April amid early Easter and 'dismal weather'
The 4% drop in sales falls short of the three-month average growth of 0.5% and the 12-month average growth of 2.2%, according to a survey by the British Retail Consortium. The distortion comes amid a change in Easter dates, as this year's run-up to Easter was in March, while last year's was in April. Following the distortion correction, the combined average growth for March and April rose by 0.2%, which was still below the three-month average growth of 0.5%. The biggest increase in the three months to April was registered for food sales, which grew by 4.4% year-on-year. But April's f...

Delhi Spice Scam: 15 Tonnes of adulterated masalas seized, 3 arrested
Delhi Police has uncovered a massive racket involving the production and sale of adulterated spices in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area. Two factories were raided, leading to the seizure of a staggering 15 tonnes of spurious spices. Three individuals, including the owners of these processing units, have been arrested in connection with the case. «Acting on this information, a team was formed, resulting in raids on May 1. During the operation, Singh was found operating one of the processing units, where he was producing adulterated turmeric using non-edible and banned substances such as spoiled leaves, rice, millets, wood dust, chilli heads, acids, and oils.» said the DCP.
