Competition Commission of India (CCI) will soon come out with regulations around the proposed leniency-plus regime, which will encourage companies under investigation for cartelisation to report other cartels and get their own penalties reduced, chairperson Ravneet Kaur said on Tuesday. The leniency-plus regime was proposed in the Competition (Amendment) Act 2023. It is aimed at creating a structure that will incentivise companies under scrutiny for spilling secrets of other cartels. The regulator will soon seek stakeholder comments for the regulations and finalise them, Kaur said in her first press conference after taking over as the head of the CCI in May. Kaur said competition authorities of the BRICS grouping will meet this week to deliberate on existing and emerging anti-trust issues, with India hosting the conference after a gap of 10 years.

This model ranges from valuation-based models to more hybrid kinds of models. The idea here is to reduce the drawdown, to move between equity exposure from say 30% to 80% based on the signals that you are getting on valuation and other trend indicators.

Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says “OMCs have become uninvestable because of the price gaps which have been put on petrol, diesel prices. We do not know what profits will come as the free pricing regime has virtually effectively ended. I do not think these companies are investable. On the other hand, Oil India, ONGC etc are very inefficient companies. So some price uptick will lead to some uptick in stock prices, but they are more trading plays.” What is your outlook on how things are shaping up within the entire pharma space? NMC said most complaints against doctors can be put down to communication gaps. In the case of alleged medical negligence, doctors have been advised to prepare proper documentation of all medical records of the patient.

Claudia Goldin, the American labour economist, has won this year’s Nobel Prize in economic sciences. Making the announcement, the Nobel committee said that Goldin has been honoured with the prestigious award for ‘having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes.’
