Golf: Brooks Koepka looks to defend his title as PGA Championship starts tomorrow
Golf set for another major PGA-LIV face-off as Koepka looks to defend his title and Scheffler aims to continue winning form when PGA Championship begins on Thursday. A still ball. Some steadfast tradition. And a sport in the throes of a disruptive market. The PGA Championship, starting Thursday, is another opportunity for golf to navigate the enduring tension between elite skill and profound skullduggery. It is fitting perhaps that the defending champion Brooks Koepka carries the flag for LIV Golf, which has poured an unimaginable stash, soaking the game in confusion and controversy. The field is stacked — 16 former champions and 33 major champions, besides 98 of the top 100 in the rankings. Clearly, the stage is set for another round of this bruising bout between the incumbent powers of the traditional circuits of golf and an irreverent, disruptive new circuit.

Tiger Woods to be lone player on negotiating committee with Saudis
Tiger Woods will be the lone player on a five-member subcommittee that will be involved in negotiations with the Public Investment Fund, part of a busy day of governance as the PGA Tour tries to strike a deal with Saudi backers of LIV Golf. Woods was appointed to the PGA Tour board in August, making him the sixth player-director and the only one whose board term has no limits. The tour said Woods will be part of the «transaction subcommittee» on the board of PGA Tour Enterprises that will handle day-to-day negotiations as PIF seeks to become a minority investor. Also on the subcommittee are PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, board chairman Joe Gorder, John W. Henry of Fenway Sports Group and Joe Ogilvie, a former tour player appointed as a director liaison in March.

Arm Sleeves for women sun protection (2024)
Additionally, arm sleeves are beneficial for avoiding tanning during the summer. By providing full coverage to the arms, they prevent the skin from getting exposed to direct sunlight, which is a common cause of tanning. This is particularly advantageous for individuals who prefer to maintain a lighter skin tone or those who are prone to developing tan lines. With arm sleeves, women can enjoy outdoor activities without worrying about the negative effects of tanning, allowing them to keep their skin looking healthy and evenly toned throughout the summer season.

PGA Tour players learn how much loyalty is worth in new equity program
Players who stayed loyal to the PGA Tour amid lucrative recruitment by Saudi-funded LIV Golf are starting to find out how much that loyalty could be worth. The PGA Tour on Wednesday began contacting the 193 players eligible for the USD 930 million from a "Player Equity Program" under the new PGA Tour Enterprises. The bulk of that money — USD 750 million — went to 36 players based on their career performance, the last five years and how they fared in a recent program that measured their star power. How much they received was not immediately known. Emails were going out Wednesday afternoon and Thursday informing players of what they would get. One person who saw a list of how the equity shares were doled out said the names had been redacted. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because many details of the program were not made public.

Chinese villagers jumped at the deal of a lifetime—then it turned sour
It seemed to be a great deal at the time: Swap an aging townhouse and a small piece of farmland for five apartments and two stores. Bella Zhao’s family grabbed that offer in 2009, when property developers led by Wanda Group moved into their sparse, snow-capped village in China’s northeastern Jilin province. Wanda planned to spend $2.8 billion to turn the area into a high-end resort replete with ski slopes, golf courses, hunting spots and five-star hotels.

Speaking to former England captain Michael Vaughan and former Australia batsman Adam Gilchrist on the Club Prairie Fir podcast, Rohit said: "Quite impressed, watching DK bat a couple of nights back, and Dhoni as well, came to play four balls, made a huge impact, that was the difference. It will be hard to convince MS although he is coming to the US, to do something else.

Tiger Woods to Retire after Augusta Masters 2024 results?
Tiger Woods' 100th competitive round at the Masters 2024 golf tournament didn't quite live up to expectations. Despite his remarkable career and past successes at Augusta, this round proved to be challenging for the golfing legend. With a score of 5-over-par 77, Woods concluded the tournament at 16-over par, marking it as one of his least impressive performances at the Masters. This outcome, coupled with finishing last among the 60 players who made the cut, added a somber note to an otherwise illustrious career at Augusta.

Scottie Scheffler produces stubborn yet imaginative golf to lead the Masters charge
Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler. As many as seven golfers exchanged the lead on a roller coaster day, even as the Sun shone brightly over Augusta. In the end though, there was just one possible outcome, or so we learnt. Scheffler, the irrepressible world No.1 survived a midround stumble to work his way back to the top of the leaderboard. Nothing else has felt more certain this week. A 71 was enough to hoist him to the top at 7-under 209. Scheffler has momentum and history supporting his claims for a second Green Jacket. As many as 28 of the last 33 Masters champions started Sunday in the final group (according to Justin Ray of the sports intelligence outfit, Twenty First Group). The first win at Augusta had also come to Scheffler when he slept on the 54-hole lead in 2022. The world No.1 was quickly up by two with birdies at the first and third holes. A double bogey at the tenth was his biggest stumble on the day. He fired his iron too hot, sending the ball rolling 27 yards behind the pin. Scheffler sent his third 60 feet past the flag, eventually taking a six. At the eleventh, once again from the middle of the fairway, as he was on the tenth, Scheffler left his approach just short of the green. He fell back to four under, caught in the vortex of a downward spiral.
