The most recent installment, "Home Sweet Home Alone," released in 2021, is exclusively on Disney+. Premiering on November 16, 1990, the first Home Alone film, made on an $18 million budget with modest promotion, became a Hollywood success story. Initially considered fortunate to break even, the film spent an astonishing 12 weeks as the number-one-grossing movie, ultimately earning $476 million at the box office. The plot revolved around the McAllister family accidentally leaving young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) behind during a Christmas trip to Paris. Kevin, initially enjoying his solitude, defends his home against bumbling burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) with inventive traps. Known for its slapstick comedy, the film became one of the highest-grossing comedies of all time. The 1992 sequel, "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," continued the story in the Big Apple, grossing $360 million, though not reaching the heights of its predecessor. The 1997 sequel, without Culkin, introduced new characters defending their home with familiar traps. However, it only grossed $79 million, significantly less than its predecessors.
