Investing.com — U.S. stock futures edged lower Monday, with investors nervous ahead of the release of crucial inflation data that could influence future Federal Reserve thinking over potential interest rate cuts.

Investing.com — US stock futures showed mixed movement on Sunday night following the first week of 2024, which saw the major averages decline. Traders are now turning their attention to the upcoming inflation data and significant bank earnings set to be released later in the week.

Investing.com — U.S. stock futures edged lower Friday, weighed by a weak outlook from sports retail giant Nike and with investors cautious ahead of key inflation data.

European shares gained on Wednesday on rising bets of interest rate cuts following softer inflation data from the UK and Germany, while a rise in commodity prices lifted resource stocks. The pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.3% by 0818 GMT, with energy and telecom sectors leading gains. Data showed German producer prices fell more than expected in November, while British inflation dropped way more than expected last month, with the headline rate falling to its September 2021 lows, strengthening the case for rate cuts. The German DAX was up 0.2%, while the UK's FTSE 100 jumped 1.3%. Energy shares rose 1.1%, while basic resources stocks gained 0.4% on higher prices of most commodities. Telefonica jumped 6.3% as the Spanish government is set to acquire around 10% stake in the telecoms giant. The broader sector was up 1%. Deutsche Post lost 1.3% after U.S.

(Reuters) — European shares rose on Tuesday led by technology and travel and leisure stocks, with investors gearing up for an inflation print out of the euro zone to gauge when interest rate cuts might begin next year.

While markets had been pricing in a better than 50 percent chance of a rate cut in March by the Fed last week, data on Friday showed job growth accelerated and the unemployment rate dipped, while a separate report showed consumer inflation expectations had dropped.
