foreign banks that operate in the country have approached the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) seeking prospective application of the guidelines on mandatory local storage of payments data from January 2025 with regard to information that’s already kept overseas. They have also sought a reprieve from any regulatory action until then. These guidelines, issued in 2018, mandate that all payment system data related to customers in the country must be stored solely in India. “Some foreign lenders have pressed for a prospective compliance date starting January 2025 to ensure all lenders can meet the regulations,” a senior foreign bank executive said, confirming a meeting with RBI officials on the data localisation issue.

The banks involved include PNB, State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Union Bank of India, RBL, IDBI Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.

Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday said that a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls has concluded, registering significant increase in women electors and first-time voters. The CEO informed that 93,000 new voters have been registered and the number of polling stations across the Union territory has also gone up by 209. «As per the Special Summary Revision-2024 completed with publication of the final electoral roll, the total number of voters stands at 88.03 lakh. These include 44.89 lakh males, 43.13 lakh females and 168 third gender electors,» the CEO said in a statement. He further said that the number of young voters in the 18 to 19 years age group has increased by 45,964, with 24,310 of them being women, even as the overall number of the women voters has also gone up by 51,142.

Used saline bottles, rubber gloves were procured by two Bangladeshi citizens and recycled in Bangladesh. Two inquiries were done by a committee in which I was also a part,» Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar said. He said he had informed anti-corruption bureau, state vigilance commission and even the CMO regarding it during his tenure in RG Kar. He raised these allegations first in July 2023 and spoken about the involvement of Ghosh in the alleged nexus. Former principal of the medical college, Ghosh, was interrogated by CBI for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday.
