Vaishnaw responded to questions raised by parliamentarians on complaints filed by MPs, MLAs, ministers and public representatives against corruption in the award of contracts for base kitchens by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) and issues related to that. «On an average, 16 lakh meals are served per day on the Indian Railways' network. It is the endeavour of Indian Railways to ensure smooth and uninterrupted services of such a large volume of meals to passengers. Further, necessary measures are put in place from time to time to improve overall services to passengers,» Railway Minister said. Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme, have faced delays primarily due to factors like land acquisition issues and financial difficulties faced by contractors, Parliament was informed Wednesday. Besides force majeure events, scarcity of construction materials, etc have also caused delays in the projects, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a reply to Rajya Sabha. «The implementation of 637 projects, including those under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme, has faced delays...,» the Minister said. Nestle India has been handed a penalty of Rs 69.45 lakh by the Commissioner of Customs (Appeals) in Mumbai, the company said in an exchange filing on Wednesday. The penalty stems from a customs duty dispute, with the company having initially filed an appeal against a decision by the Deputy Commissioner of Customs. However, the appellate authority upheld the original order, confirming the demand for the custom duty amount of Rs 69.45 lakh, along with the same amount as penalty.
