Cargo ship had engine maintenance in port before it collided with Baltimore bridge, officials say
The victims, who were part of a construction crew fixing potholes on the bridge, were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, Butler said. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore addressed their families in Spanish during the news conference, saying, “Estamos contigo, ahora y siempre," which means, “we are with you, now and always." All search efforts have been exhausted, and based on sonar scans, authorities “firmly" believe the other vehicles with victims inside are encased in superstructures and concrete from the collapsed bridge, Butler said.

AI-augmented web search is at our fingertips already
I asked the following question of my Google search bar and a few AI-based search engines: “Should I write a column on AI based search?" Google’s search engine answered the question with its usual list of internet links, led by a link to “AI based literature review tools" and including an article titled, ‘How do you know a human wrote this.’ Microsoft’s Copilot, embedded in the Bing search engine, came back with an emphatic “certainly." Both Copilot and Perplexity.ai, a new search engine that I like, returned responses that laid out the advantages of AI-based search and concluded with some limitations. Perplexity began by asking me about the purpose of writing the column: education, opinion or news.

Do we need to fact-check the fact-checker?
Mint explains why such a unit could be cause for much conflict. The fact-checking unit (FCU) was notified under the Centre’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), giving the government body power to flag any information about the government and its affiliates that it believes to be fake or misleading. The powers of the FCU were established in the 2023 amendment of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, which said that if a central fact-checker flags any information as fake, social media platforms will need to remove it within 36 hours.

From waste to wealth: The economics of battery refurbishing
A significant factor contributing to the increase in waste is the improper disposal of batteries. Up to half of all batteries wind up in the informal economy, where unregulated and frequently illegal recycling activities crack open battery cases, releasing lead and acid dust onto the ground, according to UNICEF. When batteries are discarded and burned in incinerators, harmful substances are released into the air. Similarly, burying batteries in landfills results in the leakage of hazardous materials into the soil, groundwater and surface water. Furthermore, the disposal of plastic waste, landfills and lead smelting all produce methane gas, contributing to the «greenhouse effect» and other global climatic changes. A viable option to address battery disposal concerns is the refurbishment of batteries. This process involves converting lead sulfate crystals back into active material, offering the battery a second opportunity to regain its original capacity. This not only enhances the battery's performance but also ensures it is safe for the environment.

In Wednesday’s trading session, the following five stocks witnessed a build of fresh long positions. Let us first understand how this conclusion is reached, whether the stock has seen a buildup of fresh long position or not. When the stock prices move up and open interest on the counter also moves upward, it is taken as a sign of a long buildup. The signal is considered more reliable if the volume on the counter has also seen an increase.
