125 security posts set up deep inside Naxal-hit areas in 4 years: Officials
security posts, including 18 in 2024, have been set up by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in states affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the last four years, providing a significant advantage to the security forces in the fight against the Naxals, officials said on Wednesday. Most of the posts, known as forward operating bases (FOBs), were set up deep inside forest areas, which were out of bound for government officials and security forces till their establishment. The CRPF has set up 18 FOBs so far in 2024. Thirty-one such posts were established in 2023, 48 in 2022 and 28 in 2021, an official said. Inside China’s increasing interests in Myanmar
Myanmar is an evidence of China’s increasing interest in Myanmar. In his meeting with Lieutenant General YarPyae, the junta’s home affairs minister, in Beijing, Chinese Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong said China always considers China-Myanmar relations from a strategic perspective and is trying to improve them. But the ground reality is not rosy. China has its limitations. It has brokered a ceasefire deal among warring parties in January but it wants to remain one of the most influential stakeholders in Myanmar’s political crisis. However observers feel that it is time for Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to play a bigger role in mediation efforts only. Raising doubts over China’s real intention. Dr. Brian Wong of the University of Hong Kong insisted on the need of a coordinated approach involving ASEAN, particularly Thailand, to foster sustainable peace in the region. Also observers have cautioned against viewing China’s role in brokering a ceasefire deal among warring factions in January, through a unilateral lens.

Google layoffs: ‘Most powerful company instilling fear’ say sacked employees, appeal in Labour Court
The Washington Post, citing documents filed by the fired employees, stated Google violated their rights “by terminating and/or placing them on administrative leave in response to their protected concerted activity, namely, participation (or perceived participation) in a peaceful, non-disruptive protest that was directly and explicitly connected to their terms and conditions of work." Google termed the employees' dissent “completely unacceptable" and issued a statement that read, “We carefully confirmed and reconfirmed that every single person whose employment was terminated was directly and definitively involved in disruption inside our buildings." A former Google employee, Zelda Montes, who was arrested while staging the protest, said, “Google is attempting to instil fear in employees," reported Reuters. She claimed that Google's actions were directed to stop organising efforts in the company, sending the message across to all of its employees that dissent would not be tolerated.

After vicious attack by neighbour's dog, 4-year-old undergoes three-hour surgery
Dehradun, a 4-year-old girl underwent a 3-hour surgery following an attack by a neighbour's German Shepherd. The dog had attacked the girl on March 18, following which the girl's father lodged a complaint at the local police station on Sunday evening. Recounting the event, the girl's father told TOI that his daughter, accompanied by her mother and elder sister, was heading to a shop around noon when the dog attacked her. Her father said that unleashed dog lunged at his daughter as she passed by, biting the left side of her face in an unprovoked manner. Fortunately, her mother intervened, pulling the dog away by its nape, after which it was taken inside by its owner. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she underwent a 3-hour surgery to address the facial wound. The father expressed concern, mentioning previous instances of the dog attacking others and highlighting the potential danger. Following the incident, the family had to make daily visits to the hospital for 15 days for follow-up treatments. Doctors informed them that the treatment would continue for six months, noting that the girl was still deeply affected by the incident.

Mangaluru International Airport now a silent zone
Mangaluru International Airport has implemented a new policy regarding passenger announcements, shifting away from using the public address (PA) system for such notifications, airport officials said on Tuesday. This change aims to cultivate a quieter environment for travellers, allowing them to utilise their time at the airport for various activities such as reading, conversing with loved ones, or attending to work commitments, they said. According to officials, instead of PA announcements, passengers will now rely on the Flight Information Display System (FIDS) for updates regarding their flights, including gate changes and delays. The FIDS screens are strategically placed both inside and outside the airport terminal, providing real-time information on arrivals and departures. Additionally, prominent display boards within the departure and arrival areas offer timely updates.

Manu Joseph on life: It is beautiful, and without any magic
An odd quality of the Western intellectual world is that its giants take simplistic questions very seriously. It is as though social equality makes it hard for them to be dismissive of majority opinions that are usually very naive. For instance, almost every Western intellectual superstar finds the need to denounce God.
