Canada’s cottage boom went bust. Are buyers ready to take the plunge again?
Recreational real estate has been on a wild ride the last few years. First there was the boom brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, when interest rates dropped to .25 per cent and urbanites, suddenly free from the confines of office work, sought bucolic refuge from the close quarters of city life. Prices rose more than 40 per cent, and it seemed that any cottage with reliable internet for remote work was snapped up — sometimes for 70 per cent over asking.

SOP in final stages to facilitate visa for Chinese technicians needed in mfg units: Official
PLI scheme, the government is in the final stages to put in place similar processes for other manufacturing units, an official said. The move assumes significance as some domestic manufacturing firms have flagged the issue of delay in getting visas for Chinese technicians, who are required for works like installation or repair of certain machines, besides training workers in India. «Most of the PLI (production-linked incentive scheme) visas have been taken care of. For general manufacturing also, we are trying to create a better streamlined SOP… that is with the Ministry of Home Affairs. It's at the final stages. We are hoping to sort it out. We have done a lot of sensitisation,» the official said. The rollout of SOPs does not require any approval from the Union cabinet as it is an internal process to relax norms «a bit» for facilitating visa applications of Chinese professionals or technicians whose expertise is required by domestic manufacturing units, the official added.

Bharat Bio's Rotavirus vaccine Rotovac may be unsafe for children: Study
Bharat Biotech's indigenous rotavirus vaccine Rotovac used in the government's immunisation programme increases the risk of intussusception in infants, a new study found. Intussusception is a condition where the intestine telescopes into itself and can lead to gangrene of the bowel or death if not treated immediately. The study has been published in the International Journal of Risk and Safety in Medicine. Bharat Biotech has dismissed the findings claiming the vaccine has been evaluated for safety. The study, co-authored by Jacob Puliyel, MD of the International Institute of Health Management Research, India, and Brian Hooker, chief scientific officer, Children's Health Defense, found that there was a 1.6-fold increase in the risk of intussusception in the vaccinated, which was missed in the earlier analysis.
