Air, rail, road traffic hit in Bengal ahead of cyclone Remal's landfall
landfall of severe cyclone Remal has led to significant disruptions in air, rail, and road transportation in Kolkata and other parts of South Bengal on Sunday, with concerns expected to continue into Monday. As a precaution, Kolkata airport authorities have suspended flight operations for 21 hours from Sunday noon. Additionally, the Eastern and South Eastern railways cancelled several trains. Intermittent showers and gusty winds affected South Bengal districts from Sunday morning, leading to a noticeable absence of buses, taxis, and three-wheelers on the roads in Kolkata and district towns. Disruptions in road and rail transport are anticipated on Monday, due to the effects of the cyclone's landfall, expected by midnight on Sunday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to convene his war cabinet Sunday to discuss the latest efforts towards a Gaza truce and hostage release deal, a senior official told AFP. The news came despite more deadly Gaza fighting and a rocket barrage Hamas aimed at Tel Aviv that sent people scrambling for bomb shelters as air defences intercepted projectiles streaking across the sky. US President Joe Biden has pushed for renewed international efforts to halt the Gaza war, and CIA chief Bill Burns on Friday met Mossad director David Barnea and Qatar's prime minister in Paris.

According to S&P Global Commodity Insights, however, industry insiders emphasize the need for greater policy clarity and price stability to transform these agreements into binding deals. The country's ambition to produce 5 million metric tons (mt) of renewable hydrogen by 2030 and secure a 10 per cent share of the global trade by that time underscores its commitment to renewable energy.

Govt directs telcos to block incoming international spoofed calls
telecom operators to block all incoming international spoofed calls that display Indian mobile numbers, an official statement said on Sunday. The Department of Telecom (DoT) said that it has been reported that fraudsters are making international spoofed calls displaying Indian mobile numbers to Indian citizens and committing cyber-crime and financial frauds. Such calls appear to be originating within India but are being made by cyber-criminals from abroad by manipulating the calling line identity (CLI) and have been misused in recent cases of fake digital arrests, FedEx scams, drugs or narcotics in courier, impersonation as government and police officials, disconnections of mobile numbers by DoT or TRAI officials, etc. «DoT and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have devised a system to identify and block such international spoofed calls from reaching any Indian telecom subscriber. Now directions have been issued to the TSPs for blocking such incoming international spoofed calls,» the statement said.

What holiday plans? Indians tripping on last-minute rush
domestic destinations, half a dozen experts at travel companies told ET. Reasons: more visa-free destinations, lower average age of travellers, a rise in disposable incomes, and availability of spontaneous booking options. “We are observing a significant increase in last-minute bookings among Indian travellers,” said Bharatt Malik, senior vice-president, flights and hotel business, at travel platform Yatra Online. “This is largely driven by the growing availability of flexible payment options (such as no-cost EMI and book now, pay later), which make spontaneous travel more accessible.” At Yatra Online, three out of 10 bookings are made within just three days of travel, and half the bookings are made within a week, Malik said. While booking early allows travellers to secure good deals, younger travellers increasingly prefer to keep their plans flexible, which often gives a sense of excitement and adventure and also lets them take advantage of last-minute deals.
