Ruchir Modi seeks justice over Rs 620 crore dividends in Delhi HC
Ruchir Modi, son of former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi, has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court seeking distribution of the dividends of Rs 620.83 crore, received by the K.K. Modi Family Trust companies since 2020, among the four family branches — Lalit Modi, Bina Modi, Samir Modi and Charu Modi. Justice Subramonium Prasad has given two weeks to Bina and her daughter Charu Modi to respond to the Ruchir's application. The case will be next heard on November 19. Ruchir in his fresh plea has alleged that several trust companies including Godfrey Phillips India (GPIL), IPM India Wholesale Trading and Indofil Industries have announced and distributed dividends the tune of Rs 620.83 crore to the upstream Trust companies since 2020, but he and his family branch had been kept «completely in the dark» and his family branch is entitled to a 25% share.

Who is Lidia Thorpe and why did the Indigenous Australian senator heckle King Charles?
Lidia Thorpe interrupted King Charles during a parliamentary reception on his visit to Australia, shouting accusations of historical wrongs committed against Indigenous Australians. «You committed genocide against our people. Give us our land back. Give us what you stole from us—our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people,» Thorpe declared, according to a viral video that captured the event. The 51-year-old senator was quickly escorted out by security personnel. Thorpe’s actions sent shockwaves through Parliament, where many lawmakers and dignitaries were present. Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who attended the event, referred to the senator’s outburst as «unfortunate political exhibitionism.» Later, Thorpe defended her actions, telling the BBC, «To be sovereign, you have to be of the land. He is not of this land.»

Supreme Court warns ED for the manner which PLMA is being implemented
Supreme Court on Monday criticised the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and expressed concern over the way in which PMLA was being implemented. It also made it clear that any high-handedness against any accused in violation of their fundamental rights would not be allowed, reported TOI. “ED officers should remember that there is something called Article 21 in the country (which guarantees right to life and liberty),” the Supreme Court said. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih took exception to the way in which former IAS officer Anil Tuteja was issued summons and arrested in a hurry. It sought an explanation from ED.

The proposal, which was previewed in March, implements an executive order issued earlier this year by President Joe Biden which aims to keep foreign adversaries from using accessible American financial and genomic data and health data for cyber attacks, espionage and blackmail. In addition to China, Russia and Iran, the rule would also apply to Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea.

Karnataka HC rejects PIL seeking apology from Rahul Gandhi over alleged remarks on women
Rahul Gandhi apologise for allegedly tarnishing the dignity of Indian women. The PIL stemmed from a claim that Gandhi had falsely accused former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual abuse, of «raping 400 women and filming the act,» describing it as «mass rape» and not a sex scandal. A bench comprising Chief Justice NV Anjaria and Justice K Aravind dismissed the petition, stating that it was a waste of judicial time. The Court also imposed a Rs 25,000 fine on the petitioner, the All India Dalit Action Committee, for filing the plea. The petitioner's counsel argued that Gandhi's remarks, made during a public speech, were highly irresponsible and offensive, particularly to the women of Hassan. He pleaded the Court to issue a notice to Gandhi, compelling him to respond to the allegations.

Remarks on PM's degree: SC upholds summons against Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat
Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea filed by former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal challenging an order of the Gujarat High Court refusing to quash summons in a defamation case over his alleged remarks over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualification. The Gujarat High Court had on February 16 dismissed the pleas of Singh and Kejriwal seeking quashing of the summons issued against them in the case.

Had CJI prayed for other issues...: Congress' Udit Raj slams Chandrachud for 'prayed for Ayodhya dispute' remarks
Babri Masjid land dispute. Raj stated that if the Chief Justice had prayed for resolving other pressing concerns, such as ordinary citizens getting justice without financial burdens or the misuse of agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Income Tax Department (IT), these issues might have also been addressed. This comes after CJI Chandrachud on Saturday had said that he sat before God (in his home) and asked him to find a solution to the vexed Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid dispute when the case came up before a bench led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi in which Chandrachud was one of the justices.

But they forget — he was a lion and I carry his roar within me, his fight in my veins. He stood for justice, fought for change and withstood the storms with unwavering courage,» Bandra (East) MLA Zeeshan Siddique said in a post on X on Sunday. «Now, those who brought him down turn their sights on me assuming they've won, to them I declare: The blood of a lion runs in my veins. I am still here, unafraid and unbroken. They took one, but I rise in his place. This fight is far from over. Today, I stand where he stood: ALIVE, RELENTLESS and READY. To my people of Vandre East, I am always with you (sic),» he added.

CJI Chandrachud prayed to God for Ram Mandir- Babri masjid solution
Dhananjay Chandrachud said on Saturday that he sat before God (in his home) and asked him to find a solution to the vexed Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid dispute when the case came up before a bench led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi in which Chandrachud was one of the justices. The other members of the bench were Justices S A Bobde, Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer. Speaking in an event where he was felicitated by villagers of his native village Kanesar in Pune, Chandrachud said, “I became the Chief justice… Many times it happens that we get cases and what is the way out of it, we don’t get a solution. In Ayodhya (Ramjanmabhoomi- Babri Masjid case) when it came before me, for three months, we were thinking about the Ayodhya case, meaning for hundreds of years for which there was no solution. At that time in my regular life, I have been worshipping God in my home and at that time I sat before God and I told him that he should find a solution for this and you will believe this if you have faith then God will always find a way for us”said Chandrachud who is set to retire on November 10.

Third Eye: Lady Justice and the debate, monitoring progress on PM projects & a left-handed compliment
Lady Justice and the Debate The new statue of 'Lady Justice' — without the traditional blindfold and holding a copy of the Constitution — unveiled by the Supreme Court this week generated much debate online and offline. However, a precedent had already been sent in the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code report, featuring a similar version of Lady Justice, without a blindfold and holding law books instead of scales. Monitoring Progress on PM Projects Centre's Monitoring Group has been recast for NDA 3.0, this time under the chairmanship of agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The last such group, set up in 2019-2020, was headed by Mansukh Mandaviya and Jitendra Singh. The newly-set up group held its first meeting on Friday and on the agenda was progress on all announcements made by the PM, including budget announcements, projects for which foundation stone was laid by the PM besides expectations of all ministries/ departments.
