According to unconfirmed media reports, the Chinese EV giant is planning to set up a factory in Telangana. BYD, together with Indian EV makers such as Mahindra and Tata; the JV between India's JSW and China's MG Motor; and Korean and Japanese automakers CAN make it difficult for Tesla to benefit from the Indian market in any substantial way.

New Delhi: Bengaluru-based Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt Ltd has become the first component manufacturer and the fourth overall company to receive incentives under the production-linked scheme for automobiles and auto components, as per the ministry of heavy industry on Wednesday. The ministry posted an infographic on its official handle on X about the PLI Auto scheme, and mentioned Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts (TKAP) alongside Tata Motors Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, and Ola Electric Technologies Ltd, all entities which have received PLIs under the ₹25,938-crore scheme to promote domestic auto manufacturing.

Zypp Electric has reduced its workforce by around 10% over the past two months as it works toward profitability ahead of a potential public listing. In January, the company had around 1,300 employees, which has now come down to around 1,180-1,190, according to a statement from the company. “Basically, this was not a layoff. We conducted an appraisal exercise in February, during which we looked at some rationalisation of non-performers to drive efficiency. This is part of a sustainable, profitable growth plan. As you build a business, you keep looking at its structure, and wherever some rationalisation is needed to enhance profitability and growth, you make those adjustments. Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Biden administration regulation on the nearly impossible-to-trace weapons called ghost guns, clearing the way for serial numbers, background checks and age verification requirements to buy them in kits online. Ghost guns were found at crime scenes in soaring numbers across the US before the regulation went into place, rising from fewer than 1,700 recovered by law enforcement in 2017 to more than 27,000 in 2023, according to Justice Department data. Since the federal rule was finalised, ghost gun numbers have flattened out or declined in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Baltimore, according to court documents. Manufacturing of miscellaneous gun parts also dropped 36 per cent overall, the Justice Department has said. Ghost guns are any privately made firearms without the serial numbers that allow police to trace weapons used in crime. The 2022 regulation was focused on kits sold online with everything needed to build a functioning firearm — sometimes in less than 30 minutes, according to court documents. Ashok Leyland said on Wednesday that its electric bus unit Switch Mobility could shutter one of its British plants, which would swing the unit's UK operations to profitability «soon». The company said it would review the feasibility of the plant in Sherburn, North Yorkshire in a consultation process with employees, which could lead to the plant being closed, amid continued uncertainty in the sector. The plant accounted for 0.60% of Ashok Leyland's total sales in the fiscal year ended March 2023, the company said.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Natco Pharma to maintain status quo on the launch of its drug Risdiplam till April 2. Risdiplam is an oral medicine for spinal muscular atrophy in patients two months of age or older. A Division Bench led by Justice Hari Shankar asked Hyderabad based generic drug manufacturer to hold on its hands till it heard the case on April 2. Swiss multinational F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG's had appealed against a single judge order that had refused to stop Natco Pharma from manufacturing Risdiplam in India for the rare disease.

Kotak Alternate Asset Managers on Wednesday announced a Rs 1,050-crore investment in Tirupati Medicare, which will support the pharma company's expansion efforts. The investment also gives a complete exit to Affirma Capital, which had invested in the company earlier, according to a statement. The 2005-founded Tirupati is the largest players in the nutraceutical contract manufacturing space, serving a marquee customer base, including Herbalife, Glanbia, Abbott, Torrent, Dr Reddy's, and Pfizer, among others, Kotak Alternate Asset Managers Managing Director Eshwar Karra said.

Britannia, Kaynes Energy and Gokaldas Exports have committed to invest Rs 3,700 crore in the state during an investor connect meeting held in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The proposals have come from companies in sectors such as engineering, textiles, electronics, IT/ITeS, food processing and green fuel, state officials said. The state government also signed memorandums of understanding with Nasscom, India Electronics and Semiconductor Association and TiE Bangalore to explore investment opportunities and generate employment in information technology, startup and semiconductor sectors in the state, they said.

Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited to enhance the Indian Army’s artillery capabilities. These deals, worth approximately Rs 6,900 crore, will provide the Army with 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility Vehicle 6x6 Gun Towing Vehicles. The signing ceremony took place on 26 March 2025 in New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. With this procurement, the MoD’s total capital contracts for the financial year 2024-25 have reached Rs 1.40 lakh crore.
