Bitcoin mining firm Marathon Digital has confirmed it mined an invalid  Bitcoin (BTC) block during an “experiment” aimed at optimizing the firm’s operations.

Tigst Assefa broke the women's world record by more than two minutes Sunday at the Berlin Marathon, as Eliud Kipchoge won the men's race for the fifth time but couldn't break his own record. Ethiopian runner Assefa, the winner in Berlin a year ago, ran 2 hours, 11 minutes, 53 seconds to break the previous women's record of 2:14:04 set by Brigid Kotsgei at the Chicago Marathon in 2019. Kipchoge ran alone from 32 kilometers (20 miles) onward but slowed slightly toward the end. His time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds was more than a minute and a half off the record he set in Berlin last year. Kipchoge broke the two-hour barrier in Vienna in 2019 when he ran 1:59:40 but it was not officially considered the world record.

Marathon Petroleum has claimed that the leakage has been contained after the crew responded to the leakage of naphtha, a flammable liquid that can be used as fuel. St. John the Baptist Parish officials said that evacuation is mandatory for all residents of the area within a radius of two miles. Marathon Petroleum Corp. also has asked all the residents living in a radius of one mile to evacuate temporarily. In a statement, it said, “As a precautionary measure, St. John the Baptist Parish is requiring residents within a one-mile radius of the part of the refinery closest to the fire to temporarily evacuate to locations the Parish is making available.” It said further, “As always, our main priority is to ensure the safety of our employees and contractors, our neighbors within our surrounding community, first responders, and to limit environmental impact.”

United States-based crypto mining company Marathon Digital is heading to court after its shareholders alleged that its CEO Fred Thiel, alongside other top executives, breached fiduciary duties, unjustly enriched themselves and wasted corporate assets.

The joint venture, called the Abu Dhabi Global Markets JV Entity, will be based in Mina Zayed and Masdar City in the United Arab Emirates, and will comprise two mining sites with a combined 250-megawatt capacity. Marathon and Zero Two plan to power the facilities with excess energy from Abu Dhabi’s grid, claiming it will increase its base load and sustainability.
