A note on the issue: The games won in the mind
Gukesh D and the rise of Indian chess Granted, the results were announced 15 minutes later, but the teenager revealed a remarkable stoicism, which is probably what gets one to that level in chess—apart from, of course, mental agility, hours of practice and razor-sharp focus. Over the past few years, India’s chess players have exhibited all of this on the world stage and steadily climbed the ranks, and this week we delve into everything that has led to this moment.

Industry asked to name items from areas where India can be self-reliant
tariff concessions under its proposed free trade agreement (FTA) talks with the five-member Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Engineering goods, electronics and agriculture are expected to benefit from the agreement and the government asked the industry to identify restrictions, if any, that they face in the five members of the EAEU including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. «The two sides have met and discussed initiating formal talks for the pact,» an official said, adding that in the light of this development, inputs have been sought from industry on barriers and products in which the country wants to achieve self-reliance. New Delhi's concerns stem from the fact that India's exports to the union in April-January FY24 were $3.7 billion while imports were $51.7 billion due to crude oil imports from Russia. Moreover, the bloc has signed free trade pacts with China, Vietnam, Serbia and Iran, which could impact Indian industry's competitive position in any of the EAEU markets.

Nitish Kumar explains his switches, but are voters in Bihar believing it?
Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Less than a year ago, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar was seen as a formidable figure within the opposition, positioned as the strongest challenger to PM Narendra Modi. However, Kumar's current political landscape is marked by a flurry of strategic moves, as he works to reaffirm his loyalty to the saffron alliance, comprising the PM and the BJP. During a recent event alongside Modi in Aurangabad, Kumar aimed to dispel any doubts about his allegiance, stating, «While I may have momentarily strayed from the path, I want to assure you that I have returned to the NDA fold for good.» His remarks, met with subtle smirks from Modi and Bihar governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, highlight the intricate dynamics of political alliances in the state. As Bihar witnesses the fervour of election season, Kumar assumes a prominent role in numerous rallies, often sharing stages with BJP's key campaigners. However, amidst his speeches, Kumar's assurances of unwavering commitment to the NDA ring hollow to many. Aware of his history of political manoeuvring, the public responds with scepticism, mindful of past promises that were quickly forgotten.

Met Gala: Kim Kardashian sizzles in a jaw-dropping, tiny, silver corset
fashion event is complete unless it is graced by Kim Kardashian! For the past decade or so, the socialite entrepreneur had been a constant fixture at the grand fashion gala. The 43-year-old reality TV star cut a flamboyant, yet striking figure at the Met Gala 2024. Showcasing a rather whimsical and larger-than-life take on the gala’s theme ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, the socialite sported a sparkly, silvery Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano. The ensemble consisted of a delicate, pale grey cashmere cardigan, and an ‘exfoliage’ lace train embroidered with intricate floral motifs made from silver, detailed mirror work, and adorned with pearl pieces.
