Asian Development Bank for two loans of $250 million each essentially for the country’s infrastructure sector. One of the ADB loans is for a project that supports India’s National Industrial Corridor Development programme and the other will part-finance the construction of the 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, according to the statements by the multilateral institution. The pacts were signed by Juhi Mukherjee, joint secretary in the finance ministry and Hoe Yun Jeong, deputy country director at ADB. Earlier, ADB had approved a $1.049 billion Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) to support the construction of RRTS. The project will help the RRTS improve urban mobility, and women and the differently abled will benefit from its economic impact, Mukherjee said. Passing through the populated sections of the national capital region, the 82-km corridor is aimed at providing fast, safe, and high-capacity commuter transit services, expanding economic and job opportunities by cutting travel time from three-four hours now to about one hour, according to one of the statements. The other loan of $250 million will continue support to industrial corridor development to make manufacturing more competitive, bolster national supply chains and links with regional and global value chains, and create more and better jobs, according to another ADB statement. This loan builds on another financing of $250 million approved by the ADB in October 2021 that helped strengthen policy frameworks for India’s National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) and develop 11 industrial corridors, it added. Hyderabad Auto & Taxi Drivers Association on Monday announced the launch of a new ride-hailing app Yaary, backed by the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) protocols. The app has been built by Hyderabad-based startup Yaary, founded by former fintech professionals. World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) will allow the mobile sector to plan the next wave of communications development through 5G-advanced and beyond, global telecom industry body GSMA said today. Terming the decision of WRC identifying the upper 6 GHz band for IMT or mobile use as “groundbreaking”, GSMA said it would serve as a critical developmental trigger for manufacturers of the 6 GHz equipment ecosystem. “WRC-23 took strong action to meet mobile data growth by identifying additional mid-band spectrum for mobile,” GSMA said in a statement. As per decisions taken during the WRC-23, which concluded Friday in Dubai, final harmonisation of the 3.5 GHz band (3.3-3.8 GHz) – the pioneer 5G band – was achieved across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) as well as throughout the Americas. “Notably, a new band – the 6 GHz band (6.425-7.125 GHz) – was identified for mobile in every ITU Region – EMEA, the Americas and the Asia Pacific.

UK are trying to resolve issues concerning visas for domestic professionals and duty concessions on British electric vehicles (EVs) as part of the proposed free trade agreement, and talks on them are at the last leg, an official said. An Indian team is in the UK to iron out differences over these issues, besides some others in the services sector and customs duty cut on British whiskey. The two countries are looking at tariff rate quota (TRQ) type arrangements for EVs.
