Hyderabad Auto & Taxi Drivers Association on Monday announced the launch of a new ride-hailing app Yaary, backed by the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) protocols. The app has been built by Hyderabad-based startup Yaary, founded by former fintech professionals.
Yaary has already onboarded over 20,000 auto and taxi drivers in Hyderabad, and is collaborating with various other driver associations across other cities to launch similar mobility apps, it said in a statement.
This comes at a time when larger peers in the ride-hailing sector—Uber and Ola—are faced with increasing competition in some pockets from newer mobility apps. In the online cab booking space, bike taxi app Rapido made a foray last month, while Namma Yatri, built by fintech startup Juspay, has been operating as an auto rickshaw booking service in Bengaluru.
On the lines of Rapido for cab services and Namma Yatri for auto rickshaws, Yaary also plans to operate as a marketplace charging zero commission to its driver partners. The platform claims to charge a “nominal SaaS fee to service providers – 10 times less than traditional ride-hailing aggregators”.
