Excitel plans cable-to-fiber push, eyes two million new users on IPTV
Excitel, a Delhi-based home broadband provider, is gearing up to transform India’s cable TV households into fiber broadband users by replacing traditional set-top boxes with Android-enabled IPTV boxes. The company aims to onboard 2 million new users in 18 months through this hybrid model. “We want to replace legacy cable TV boxes with Android boxes and give users OTT, YouTube and live channels, all at the same price they pay today,” said Vivek Raina, CEO and co-founder of Excitel. “The user gets more, the cable operator runs just one network, and we grow faster without laying new fiber ourselves.” IPTV, or Internet Protocol Television, is a method of delivering television content over the internet offering an alternative to traditional cable or satellite TV. India’s largest telecom company Bharti Airtel also rolled out IPTV across 2000 cities last week.

How to keep your broking account ‘active’
As a thumb-rule for stock market investing, doing less is more. “The stock market is designed to transfer money from the active to the patient," Warren Buffet famously said. However, exchange rules require you to make some transactions in your broking account to keep it active.

Myntra set to take internship route for entry-level hiring
Myntra is set to take a different route to entry-level hiring from this year, switching from on-campus final placements to internship. The fashion e-tailer is looking to hire more than 100 employees every year through this route, said its chief human resources officer Govindraj MK. «The internship programme will now be a primary pathway for hiring into first-level roles,» he told ET in an interview. For lateral roles, the company is mostly looking at in-house talent. «Whenever there's a vacancy, we prioritise internal talent mobility, grooming employees for higher roles through career development and learning programmes,» said Govindraj. This year Myntra has launched a four-to-six-month internship programme across tech, fashion-technology, business and finance. The first batch started in January 2025 and already, the company has engaged more than 10 interns, he said. «In all, we are looking at hiring about 150-170 interns throughout the year, and this will be our primary talent pipeline for full-time hiring,» said Govindraj. Students need to go through a screening process, including an entrance test and interviews, before being selected as interns. «This period (four to six months) is mutually beneficial; it allows students to assess whether our culture aligns with their career goals while we evaluate their potential for a full-time role,» he said.

US car buyers face higher prices, less choice under Trump's tariffs
«Most car makers can't eat 25%, they just can't,» said Andy Palmer, former CEO of Aston Martin. «That means car makers will pass on as much of the cost of tariffs as they can,» including by removing features to lower their costs while also raising prices. Automakers may spread that cost between U.S.-produced and imported models, cut back on features, and in some cases, stop selling affordable models aimed at first-time car buyers, as many of those are imported and less attractive if they carry a higher price tag. The changes could price more Americans out of the market. S&P Global Mobility estimated Thursday that tariffs will cause annual U.S. vehicle sales to fall to a range of 14.5 million to 15 million in coming years from 16 million in 2024. Cox Automotive estimates tariffs will add $3,000 to the cost of a U.S.-made vehicle and $6,000 to vehicles made in Canada or Mexico without exemptions. While luxury sellers like Bentley or Ferrari say they will pass on costs, major automakers' typical margins of 6% to 8% leave little wiggle room. Affordable models most likely to be affected include the Honda CR-V, Chevy Trax, Subaru Forester, Chevy Equinox and Honda HR-V, said Erin Keating, executive analyst at Cox. «Car makers know they have certain vehicles in their portfolio that can tolerate lower profit margins,» Keating said. «Some vehicles may just prove to be too expensive, and most of those are affordable models manufactured outside the U.S.»

How a standalone ministry of manufacturing and supply chains could do the trick for India
bilateral trade agreements. Accompanying political energy and encouraging words reflect a dramatic departure from sobering scepticism of the recent past. The big change is, of course, Donald Trump's unsheathing of tariffs. Inevitably, trade negotiations with the US are the principal driver. Not every trade agreement will be uniform. Concessions will likely vary, depending on strategic vulnerability. As India's most consequential business, technology and foreign policy relationship, the US will get priority in timing and substance. This is rooted in realism. It's the same approach every other major trade partner of Washington will take. In a volatile world, marked by American recalibration and retrenchment, there are significant gains to becoming among the earliest countries to find accord with the Trump administration. Gains will be both tangible and intangible.

GE delivers first engine for indigenous LCA Mk1a
indigenous fighter jet, the light combat aircraft Mk1a, has been delivered, marking the start of supplies that had been delayed due to supply chain constraints. GE Aerospace has handed over the first of 99 F404-IN20 engines on order to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and a total of 12 engines are expected to be sent this year. The supply of LCA Mk1a to the Air Force has been delayed by over a year as the engines could not come on time due to disruptions in global supply chains faced by the American vendor. The Air Force has placed an order for 83 jets on HAL, which now plans to gradually ramp up production, taking it to 24 aircraft a year. GE acknowledged the delays in supplies, saying that it shut down the production line for engines in 2016 when earlier orders had been fulfilled and restarting it was a complex task. The company added that the delivery of the first engine is an important milestone and it will continue to work with suppliers to keep the production line efficient. «Restarting the F404-IN20 engine line during Covid pandemic was even more challenging. With a high focus on safety and quality, and a remarkable commitment from our supply chain teams and our suppliers and partners, we have managed to restart the line,» Shawn Warren, general manager, Combat & Trainer Engines, GE Aerospace, said. The executive said that the engine is one the most successful in military aviation history and the variant delivered has been particularly made for the Indian requirement. «The F404-IN20 engine is a tailored design for India's single-engine fighter, with the highest thrust within the F404 family and a higher-flow fan, unique single-crystal turbine blades, and numerous special components,» he said.
