Russia's Luna-25 spacecraft crashed into the moon
Russia's Luna-25 spacecraft which was launched with an objective to make soft-landing on the South Pole of the moon has crashed on the lunar surface, the space agency Roscosmos confirmed on Sunday. The Russian Space Agency said that the crash occurred due to a deviation between actual and calculated parameters of the propulsion manoeuvre which led Luna-25 to an unintended orbit resulting in collision with lunar surface.

When will Chandrayaan-3 attempt soft- landing on Moon?
Chandrayaan-3 will make a soft landing on the Moon on 23 August (Wednesday) at around 5:45 PM (IST) in the evening. The Lander module of Chandrayaan-3, comprising Vikram lander and rover Pragyan will soft land on Moon where the speed will go down from 6000 km/hour to zero. Launched on 14 July 2023, Chandrayaan-3 underwent more than five manoeuvres so far.

Mission to moon: Russia's Luna-25 faces technical glitch, will it lag behind India's Chandrayaan-3 in the race?
As the world awaits for the ending of two friendly nations' race to moon, technical glitch in Russia's Luna-25 is feared to be a setback against India's Chandrayaan landing. On Saturday, Russia reported an “abnormal situation" on its moon-bound Luna-25 spacecraft, which was launched earlier in August. Russian space agency, Roscosmos, said the spacecraft faced an unspecified trouble while trying to enter a pre-landing orbit.

Chandrayaan-3 LIVE updates: Vikram Lander inches closer to Moon ahead of soft-landing; 2nd deboosting on 20 August
Read all the latest updates about Chandrayaan-3 at Mint's LIVE blog:ISRO has released a short video of the Moon, captured by Chandrayaan-3's Lander Position Detection Camera onboard spacecraft on 15 August 2023.The deboosting of the lander module of Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft means the process of slowing down of the lander to an orbit where the Perilune (the orbit's closest point to the Moon) and Apolune (farthest point from the Moon) are only a few kilometres away from the spacecraft. The deboosting will help in the soft landing on the Moon. The second deboosting of the lander module of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft will take place on 20 August, Sunday, ISRO said.

India's Chandrayaan-3 and Russia's Luna-25: Race to Moon's south pole heats up
Chandrayaan-3 and Russia's Luna-25 gearing up for lunar landings next week, each mission holding significant implications beyond the thrilling competition in the skies. While Chandrayaan-3 plans to be the first to land on the Moon's south pole, Luna-25's swift trajectory has cast new light, say experts as anticipation builds up. The proximity, possible overlap, of their landing dates — August 21-23 for Luna-25 and August 23-24 for Chandrayaan-3 — has intensified global attention.
