markets Digital Food Nestle country testing Courts FSSAI is now more pro-active, industry-centred with fast responses: Nestle
FSSAI, and the Indian food regulator has now become more pro-active and industry-centred with fast responses in the last decade, said Nestle India Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan. Moreover, with the setting of more NABL-accredited laboratories by different leaders of FSSAI, the credibility of the testing process has also increased, said Narayanan, who led Nestle India after the Maggi crisis, which unfolded almost a decade back. In June 2015, FSSAI banned Maggi noodles for allegedly containing lead beyond permissible limits, forcing the company to withdraw the product from the market. Industry observers opine that only after the Maggi crisis did the FSSAI come into the limelight across the country though it was established almost seven years ago, in September 2008, to lay down science-based standards for food articles and rules and regulations.

Urban India is under some strain as demand continues to be muted amid surging food inflation, packaged foods maker Nestle India’s chairman Suresh Narayanan said at a media briefing on Tuesday at the company’s infant foods plant in Samalkha. He said there are “some pressure points from mega cities and metros" though tier one and below towns and rural markets seem to be reasonably stable. “The FMCG sector is facing sluggish demand with growth declining to 1.5-2 per cent compared to double digit growth a few quarters ago,” Narayanan said. The maker of Maggi noodles, KitKat chocolates and Nescafe coffee, reported a marginal 0.94% year-on-year decline in net profit for the July-September ’24 quarter, down to Rs 899.49 crore, hurt by softer demand and high commodity prices. revenue growth in the past eight years. Against an expectation of around 5% revenue growth, Nestle India posted revenue growth of 1.3% on back of some of its key brands witnessing pressure due to softer consumer demand. The profitability also suffered on account of inflationary prices of coffee and cocoa. The operating profit margin corrected by 100 bps to 23.4%. Raw material cost stood at 43.6% of revenues-same as the year ago elevated level of 43.7%. It has increased its investment in advertising and marketing during the quarter. Other expenses (as a proportion of revenues) increased to 23.6% against corresponding year-ago level of 21.6%. Despite this, muted consumer demand ensured that only five of the company's top 12 brands grew at double-digits.

Imagine a hot summer afternoon, and you, nestled in your favourite chair. The ceiling fan above spins lazily — crazily — its rhythmic hum drowning out the world's cacophony. But it makes more than just white noise. It's also a noise-canceller that protects you from the loudness outside seeping in. The rustling of its fins is the perfect recipe for lazy weekends, and the comforting presence of home.
