Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Saturday claimed that had Prime Minister Narendra Modi not been there, the Ayodhya Ram temple would not have been built despite the Supreme Court's ruling. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena (UBT) has in a retort to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the BJP leader's "fake degree" controversy, as per an ANI report. Referring to Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah labelling his faction of the Shiv Sena as "fake", Thackeray said that the Maharashtra-based party was founded by Bal Thackeray and is "not your degree", it added. He was speaking at a campaign rally in Boisar on April 12.

Income Tax Department on April 12 said that the amended India-Mauritius protocol on the double taxation avoidance agreement (DTAA) is awaiting ratification and notification by the department, as per a PTI report. On March 7, 2024, India and Mauritius signed an amendment to the DTAA, introducing a principal purpose test (PPT) aimed at curtailing tax avoidance. The PPT ensures that treaty benefits are granted only for transactions with a genuine purpose, addressing concerns over tax avoidance.

Delhi High Court has said there is no bar under the Constitution on political parties, which are granted recognition by the State Election Commission (SEC), from contesting municipal polls. The court has also said the allocation of poll symbols to political parties by the SEC for municipal elections is reasonable and not arbitrary. The court passed an order to this effect while dismissing a petition that had sought a direction to the SEC here to stop putting the reserved symbols for political parties on the list of contesting candidates. The plea had also sought a direction to the SEC to conduct the election to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) without the reserved symbols, which allegedly violated the petitioner's fundamental rights as enshrined under Article 14 (equality before law) of the Constitution.
