Reliance and Nvidia, a leading US-based company in Artificial Intelligence computing has announced a joint attempt in building AI infrastructure in India. The announcement was made by CEO Jensen Huang during a chat session with Mukesh Ambani at the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 on Thursday. The summit was being hosted by Nvidia, one of the world's leading tech companies for the first time in India. «It makes complete sense that India should manufacture its own AI. You should not export data to import intelligence. India should not export flour to import bread,» said Jensen Huang while in conversation with the Reliance Chairperson.

SK Hynix on Thursday posted a record quarterly profit as the Nvidia supplier booked strong sales of its advanced chips, and said demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips would continue to outpace supply next year. The company played down market concerns about an oversupply of the chips used in generative AI chipsets, saying production of higher-margin HBM chips was limited due to technological challenges, while demand was proving stronger than expected. «We believe that it is premature to talk about demand slowdown for AI chips and HBM at this point,» Kim Kyu Hyun, SK Hynix's head of DRAM marketing said on a conference call, citing ever-increasing requirements for computing power.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Wednesday a design flaw with its latest Blackwell AI chips which impacted production has been fixed with the help of longtime Taiwanese manufacturing partner TSMC. Nvidia unveiled Blackwell chips in March and had earlier said they would ship in the second quarter but were delayed, potentially affecting customers such as Meta Platforms, Alphabet's, Google and Microsoft. «We had a design flaw in Blackwell,» Huang said. «It was functional, but the design flaw caused the yield to be low. It was 100% Nvidia's fault.»

"Granite 3.0" models will be made open-source, similar to other versions in IBM's Granite family of AI models. Nvidia hit a record high amid a rally in U.S. chip stocks on Thursday after industry bellwether TSMC's strong sales forecast boosted investor optimism about demand for processors used to power artificial intelligence applications. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, the world's largest contract chipmaker, raised its expectation for annual revenue growth and said sales from AI chips would account for mid-teen percentage of its full-year revenue. US-listed TSMC shares rose more than 11%, lifting the company's market capitalization above $1 trillion.

Apple has left negotiations to participate in an OpenAI funding round expected to raise about $6.5 billion, the Wall Street Journal said on Friday. The tech giant recently fell out of the talks for the round, set to close next week, the newspaper said, citing a person familiar with the matter. Other firms, such as Microsoft and Nvidia, have also been in talks to participate, the report said, adding that Microsoft was expected to invest about $1 billion after having already poured $13 billion into the company.
