MUMBAI : The controversy over Care Health Insurance Ltd’s award of hefty stock options to its chairperson Rashmi Saluja has taken a turn that may further delay the billionaire Burman family’s bid to take over the company’s parent entity, Religare Enterprises Ltd. In a move that may spark a fresh legal tussle, Care Health has argued against the insurance regulator’s powers over stock options granted to anyone in an Indian insurance company.

Cauvery issue: Will release 8,000 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu, says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah on Sunday said the Karnataka government was ready to release 8,000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery river every day to neighbouring Tamil Nadu instead of one TMC as directed by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee till this month-end. There is only 63 per cent water in the Cauvery basin dams and in this situation, the state was not in a position to release one TMC water each day, the Chief Minister told reporters after an all-party meeting here. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka, JD(S) MLA G T Deve Gowda, farmer leaders and legal experts attended the meeting. «Everyone was of the opinion that we should release 8,000 cusecs of water and not one TMC, which is 11,500 cusecs of water. If there is no rain then we will minimise the release of water and file an appeal before the Cauvery Water Management Authority,» Siddaramaiah said.

How the Tories lost Britain
Britain heads to the polls Thursday, and talk about another election gamble that hasn’t paid off. In the same way President Biden hoped Americans wouldn’t notice his age and Emmanuel Macron assumed the French would rebuff the insurgent right, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thought—wrongly—that a summer election would focus voters on his virtues. In the event, voters still are trying to figure out what those virtues are supposed to be.

4th of July sales approach in a matter of 48 hours and shopping freaks cannot stay calm as the plethora of categories the sales will cover will indeed save big bucks for consumers this year. The 4th of July sales are of another significant importance as they arrive on the occasion of the US Independence Day, which is a federal holiday, giving US-based shopaholics leisure to scroll through all deals and offers throughout the day before finalizing their purchase. However, experts, according to an NBC News report, are of the opinion that one must wait for the Amazon Prime Day 2024 sales before making purchases of some specific categories.

Labour predicted to rout Sunak's Conservatives as Britain goes to polls
Britain looks set to elect Labour Party leader Keir Starmer as its next prime minister when voters go to the polls on Thursday, sweeping Rishi Sunak's Conservatives out of office after 14 often turbulent years. Opinion polls put Starmer's centre-left party on course for a landslide victory as voters turn their backs on the Conservatives following a period of infighting and turmoil that led to five prime ministers in eight years. However, surveys show many voters simply want change, rather than fervently backing Labour, meaning Starmer could enter office with one of the biggest to-do lists in British history but without a groundswell of support or the financial resources to tackle it.

Is there efficacy of expunction in era of live telecast, digital media?
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expunged portions of Rahul Gandhi's speech, questions were raised over the efficacy of this move in times of live telecast and digital media. Rule 380 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha vests the Speaker with power to order expunction of words — which in his opinion are «defamatory, or indecent or unparliamentary or undignified» — from the proceedings of the House. Birla ordering expunction of Gandhi's remarks, including on Hinduism, means that parts of the speech will not be included in official record. It also means that expunged parts will be erased from video recordings of Lok Sabha TV. This is done to make it consistent with the official printed version. So while Gandhi may have scored immediate political brownie points with his speech in Lok Sabha, the expunction will mean that official records will not reflect the deleted portions.
