Karnataka: BJP displaying anti-farmer mindset by opposing milk price hike, says DK Shivakumar
DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said that the price of milk has been hiked in the interest of farmers and opposition to it by the BJP only demonstrates its anti-farmer stance. Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, he said, «BJP has once again demonstrated that it is anti-farmer by opposing the milk price hike. A hike of Rs 2 per litre has been done to benefit the farmers. The quantity of milk has also been increased proportionately. Price hikes should not be politicised, the decision has been taken as input costs for farmers have gone up. The price of milk in the state is still lower than in other states.» Asked about the statement of the KMF Chairman that the proceeds from the price hike won't go to farmers, he said, «Farmers are KMF. In my opinion, prices should have been hiked some more. Farmers are in distress and are selling their cattle. Let them check the prices of milk in other states and then talk about this.»

Not happy with Centre for excluding Bengal government from Teesta talks with Bangladesh: Mamata Banerjee to PM
Mamata Banerjee on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing «strong reservation» over the Centre excluding the state government from discussions with Bangladesh regarding Teesta water sharing and the Farakka Treaty. Banerjee also urged the PM to not hold any such discussion with the neighbouring country without involving the West Bengal government. «I am writing this letter in context of the recent visit of Prime Minister of Bangladesh. It seems that water sharing issues relating to the Ganges and Teesta rivers may have been discussed during the meeting. Such unilateral deliberations and discussions without consultation and the opinion of the state government is neither acceptable nor desirable,» she said in a three-page letter to Modi. Bengal has a very close relationship with Bangladesh — geographically, culturally and economically, she noted.
