Congress on Saturday dubbed Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's tour of United Kingdom and Germany as «open drama in the name of investment» and jibed that he wanted to be an «international tourist» like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party hit back by calling the Congress «anti-development» and said it was not «tourism but drawing investment for the betterment of the state». Yadav will be visiting the two European nations from November 23 to December 1. In a statement, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari said, «An open drama going on in the name of investment in Madhya Pradesh. Crores of rupees are being spent in the name of government publicity. When the CM and officials got bored of roaming in various states, they are now exploring the possibilities of government tourism abroad.»

money laundering case linked to alleged duping of plot buyers, noting that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in a «brazen manner» in «disregard» of Delhi High Court orders, adding that the approach needed to be «deprecated». Special Judge Gaurav Gupta granted relief to Rajesh Katyal, who was accused of duping innocent plot buyers of their hard-earned money. The judge noted the submissions made by senior advocates Vikas Pahwa and Geeta Luthra, appearing for the accused, that Delhi High Court directed status quo in the FIR, based on which the ED lodged its case, by an order passed on July 30, 2024. «Since FIR forms part of the predicate offence (based on which the ED lodged the present case), the ED ought to have abided by the said order. However, in a brazen manner and in disregard of orders passed by a Constitutional court, the ED proceeded to arrest the accused.

Jaipal Yadav appeared before the Hyderabad police on Saturday, following a summon related to the phone-tapping investigation. He is the second ex-MLA to be questioned about allegations of illegal phone interceptions during the previous BRS regime. After the interrogation, Yadav told reporters that he received a notice for sharing phone numbers with a police official involved in the case and confirmed that he had answered to the queries. This comes after another former BRS MLA, Chirumarthi Lingaiah, was questioned on November 14.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued around 550 challans, imposing a total fine of over Rs one crore, to BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles on Friday on the first day of the ban on these vehicles under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) III in the national capital, officials said. According to police, they have also issued challans to 4,855 vehicles imposing a total of Rs 4.8 crore in fines for not having Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) in the national capital on Friday. A fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed on motorists for not having a valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate. These challans get released from courts. Private BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles were banned from roads with violations inviting a penalty of Rs 20,000. Diesel and petrol inter-state buses from the NCR cities to Delhi are also banned. A senior police officer said that they have issued a total of 293 challans for BS-III and BS-IV vehicles in the eastern, central and northern ranges of the city. A total of 2,404 challans have been issued for not having PUCC certificates.

Election Commission of India has prohibited the sale of alcohol across Mumbai and other Maharashtra cities for four days in the election season. The order is to conduct the polls smoothly. Earlier, Mumbai, along with other cities in Maharashtra like Thane and Pune, witnessed a dry day on November 12 due to the occasion of Kartik Ekadashi. Dry days refer to the specific days of the when the sale of alcohol remains completely prohibited in a region. Such decisions are usually taken during several important national, religious or cultural events.

Even as the generation of OSR for panchayats has come into focus to give these rural bodies more financial autonomy, according to the data compiled by the Panchayati Raj ministry, between 2017 and 2022, only an amount of Rs 5,118.98 crore was raised as OSR by the panchayats. This comes down to Rs 59 per capita and Rs 2.27 lakh per panchayat over the five-year period for 2.25 lakh gram panchayats across the country. The total population coming under these panchayats was more than 86.95 crore in the said period. Among the states, Gujarat collected the highest amount as OSR at Rs 829.75 crore, while Kerala came second collecting Rs 802.95 crore.

lithium-ion battery demand in India is set to grow exponentially to 54 gigawatt hours (GWh) by FY27 and 127 GWh by FY30, as the country sets an ambitious target to meet 50% of its primary energy requirement from renewable energy by 2030. Currently, domestic lithium-ion battery storage demand of 15 GWh is being almost entirely met through imports of lithium-ion cells and batteries. India imports almost its entire requirement of Li-ion batteries. However, CareEdge Ratings expects India's import dependency to decline to 20 per cent by FY27, despite significant growth in demand due to large-scale integrated capacities being built for Li-ion battery storage.

Online shopping with credit cards is rising, fueled by deals offered during the festive season. In September 2024, shoppers in India spent Rs 1,15,168 crore online using credit cards. This makes up 65.4% of the total Rs 1,76,201 crore spent through credit cards, ToI reported on November 16 citing latest data. The survey, which included 700 credit card users, found that 80% took advantage of special credit card offers available on e-commerce platforms. The main attractions were discounts, no-cost EMI options, and better deals overall. This trend started earlier in the year. In April, online credit card spending was Rs 94,516 crore, which was 60% of the total Rs 1,56,498 crore spent. The portion of online spending grew to 63.4% in July, dipped slightly to 62.4% in August, and then reached 65.3% in September.

Income Tax Department has not extended the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) for FY 2023-24 for taxpayers subject to audit and other designated income taxpayers. Earlier, the tax department extended the deadline by 15 days for ITR filing for FY 2023-24 for audit cases from the original deadline of October 31, 2024. No further extension was announced by the tax department regarding this deadline.

Some of the lenders in the consortium, which included Morgan Stanley and Bank of America, think Musk's emergence as a close aide to Republican President-elect Donald Trump could boost the prospects of X, previously known as Twitter, the sources said. If that were to happen, it would allow them to sell the debt without having to take a massive loss on the deal, the sources said. Musk, X, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
