DGCA chief Vikram Dev Dutt has been appointed as coal secretary, as part of a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre on Saturday. Dutt is a 1993 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dutt, Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as secretary, Ministry of Coal, according to a Personnel Ministry order.

BJP) has fielded Navya Haridas against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the Wayanad by-election to the Lok Sabha. The polling will be held on November 13, and the results will be declared on November 23. Navya Haridas is a mechanical engineer with a B.Tech degree from KMCT Engineering College, Calicut University, obtained in 2007. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Navya has no criminal cases and owns assets worth Rs 1,29,56,264. She also has a total liability of Rs 1,64,978, as per the ADR.

Vedanta on Saturday said it will pump in over Rs 1 lakh crore in Rajasthan across different business verticals, including, zinc and oil and gas. While Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta group firm, will invest Rs 30,000 crore to double zinc capacity from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2 MTPA, silver from 800 tonne to 2,000 tonne, and set up a one MTPA fertiliser plant, Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta Ltd, will invest Rs 35,000 crore to augment capacity to 3 lakh barrels per day, the company said. Vedanta Group entity Serentica Renewables will invest Rs 50,000 crore to develop 10,000 MW renewable power capacity to support the investments, help energy transition and ensure highest environmental standards and green manufacturing, the company said in a statement. Vedanta also announced setting up of an industrial park around the Udaipur area on a non-profit basis, for small and medium scale industries from Rs 5 crore onwards.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) plans to install a 2,000 kilowatt-peak (KWp) solar power plant on its campus, a move that could cut its annual electricity bills by around Rs 3 crore, according to official sources. The new setup will see solar panels installed on the rooftops of hostels, remaining academic buildings, and small vacant areas near the academic complex. Currently, JNU has 600 KWp solar panels on academic buildings, which have been in operation since 2018. «These panels generate around 9 lakh units of electricity every year and have helped the university save approximately Rs 4.2 crore on electricity,» the source said.

Pensioners are required to submit their Life Certificate in November each year as per the government's prescribed form. However, for senior Pensioners aged 80 and above, the Life Certificate can be submitted starting from October 1. In both cases, the Life Certificate remains valid until November 30th of the following year. If the life certificate is not filed by November, pension payments for December and beyond will not be made to the pensioner.
