Top fund managers: How fund managers are ranked, know methodology here
fund manager performance, not scheme performance. This is possible only if we follow the fund manager across schemes and asset management companies. A fund manager may be managing a large-cap fund and also a mid-cap or small-cap fund. To get a unified score that captures performance across fund mandates, we created virtual NAVs for each fund manager and all metrics are based on these ‘virtual’ NAVs. The best fund managers were selected using the following steps: Gating: The first step involved creating a list of fund managers eligible for ranking. Track record: A single track record was created for each fund manager.

Best Fund Managers: 10 fund managers who generated most wealth for investors in six years
stock market, with its shifting preferences, has tested their mettle. Fund managers have had to dig deep, revisit long-held beliefs and adapt to the changing realities. Even as they bear the scars of the battle, these experts have kept calm and held their nerve to guide their funds through chaos. In this year’s Best Fund Manager rankings, we have tied up with investment research platform, PrimeInvestor, to shine the spotlight on 10 such individuals, who have delivered healthy outcomes to investors in the long run. Initially, the preferred growth oriented investing style plied by many of these fund managers fetched superior results. However, as the market gravitated towards the value segment, this approach was tested. Overpaying for quality has burnt many fingers. Most fund managers have stayed true to their convictions, while using the temporary disruption to address past mistakes and improve the resilience of their portfolios. The common thread visible in the top fund managers’ strategies is the emphasis on avoiding risk and constantly re-evaluating their investing theses. These qualities have helped them deliver healthy risk-adjusted returns over entire market cycles.

India's current account deficit likely at below 1% of GDP in FY24
current account deficit (CAD) estimates for FY24. Capital inflows through both foreign direct investment (FDI) and portfolio flows are expected to improve during the rest of the fiscal. "A wake up call that you can't play one way against quality teams": Vaughan on England's loss to India
Michael Vaughan took to social media and said that England's performance is a «wake-up call» that they cannot play in one particular way against quality teams. A five-wicket haul by ace all-rounder and first-innings centurion Ravindra Jadeja and top knocks from skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, double centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal and debutant Sarfaraz Khan saw England sink to its knees and surrender to the hosts inside four days. The highly attacking, positive and result-oriented 'Bazball' approach did not work for England as they witnessed a heavy collapse in their first innings after a solid start and could not even put up a fight in the last innings. «Even when this England team have lost in the last 2 years you have always been able to take positives… or they haven't been hammered… this is looking like a wake up call that surely sends a message you can't just play one way against quality teams,» Vaughan wrote on X.

For IT firms, deal wins paint a grim picture
The revival hopes for the information technology (IT) sector hinge significantly on the rate of deal acquisitions, yet the December quarter (Q3FY24) witnessed a lukewarm performance in this arena. Following an exceptional second quarter, top-tier IT firms experienced a slowdown in deal wins during Q3. While moderation was expected due to the quarter's typical seasonal downturn, the absence of mega deal announcements and the trend of lengthier deal durations have raised concerns.

Is it time for a sector and portfolio churn away from four-wheelers to two-wheelers? Ashwin Patil answers
Ashwin Patil, Research Analyst-Auto, LKP, says while passenger vehicles had a great time, this year belongs to two-wheelers. So, there can be a good churning from passenger vehicles to two wheelers because the Q3 numbers were good for all the two-wheeler companies and surely one can definitely look at certain companies within the two-wheeler pack. Recently, we have been hearing reports that the passenger vehicle retail registrations have been slowing down while, of course, the rural economy is picking up and things are looking on the upside for two-wheelers. Is it time now for a bit of a sector and portfolio churn away from four-wheelers into two-wheelers? Ashwin Patil: On the back of a very low base last year, the two-wheeler industry has been performing well this year and till date, these companies are seeing about 12% to 15% growth. We believe that this industry will be definitely performing better than any other auto industries segments like passenger vehicles or commercial vehicles or tractors.
