Play auto via auto finance or even auto ancillaries: Anand Tandon
Anand Tandon, Independent Analyst, says that “the key challenge in IT today is that we are rotating into IT for a lack of other good places. But at the same time, there is no case that has been made that the IT sector is actually going to either perform very well in the near term or that the outlook has improved in terms of the demand side of the equation. ”Which are the top stocks that you like in the auto space? The view on auto is not particularly positive for me.

'Walking Dead' spinoff 'Interview With The Vampire' greenlighted by actor's union
Walking Dead' and the next season of 'Interview With the Vampire' can resume production despite the ongoing Hollywood strikes after reaching an agreement with the actors' union. The three AMC series are the highest-profile television productions yet to get what's known as an interim agreement from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The approval was granted Wednesday because the cable channel AMC and production company Stalwart Films are not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers — the coalition of studios the actors are striking against — though they are what's known as «authorized companies» that abide by the contracts reached by the AMPTP. 'The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon' and 'Interview With the Vampire' will now resume shooting their second seasons. And the deal will allow actors to do post-production work on the first season of 'The Walking Dead: Those Who Live.' No new writing will be allowed on the series because the Writers Guild of America, in perhaps the most significant divergence in strategy with the actors union, has opted not to grant any such agreements. SAG-AFTRA's tactic of granting interim agreements — which have been given to hundreds of films and shows produced outside the major studios so long as they grant actors the terms the union asked for in their last offer before the strike began July 12 — has drawn objections from many union members who feel they're undermining their objectives. Union leaders, while conceding that they did an insufficient job of explaining the strategy at first, have consistently defended it and touted its effectiveness in recent weeks.

Sebi proposes validation agency to verify performance claims of registered entities
Sebi has proposed a performance validation agency (PVA) that will independently verify the claims made by intermediaries including research analysts and investment advisors. The regulator, in a consultation paper floated for public comments, said there has been a demand from registered intermediaries to showcase their performance to investors so as to establish their credibility in the eyes of investors. «In order to address this demand, it is proposed to facilitate registered intermediaries to disclose their performance to investors, while at the same time having checks and balances to protect investors interest against unverified claims,» the paper noted. The proposed PVA will validate the claims related to investment advice, 'buy/sell/hold' recommendations, mutual fund schemes, portfolio management services etc. by Sebi registered intermediaries such as portfolio managers, AMCs, stock brokers, research analysts among others. If formed, PVA will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of market infrastructure institutions (MIIs) or a jointly supported entity by multiple MIIs, whose purpose would be to enable intermediaries to market their products based on validations made by the PVA. The recognition of the proposed PVA would be based on the eligibility of the parent entity, for which the eligibility criteria will be prescribed by the regulator. The Sebi paper said that the performance or claims will be validated by PVA based on specified parameters such as returns, risk, volatility and other suitable parameters as may be decided by industry forum in consultation with the validation agency and the regulator. «PVA will be responsible to maintain confidentiality of the information received by it during this process.

Core sector growth eases marginally to 8% in July
core sector registered an 8% growth in July, compared with 8.3% in the previous month, as all eight sectors recorded a positive growth for the first time in 14 months, according to data released Friday. While the continuation of government capex (both centre and states) in July led to a strong performance in steel and cement sectors, economists noted that the growth in cement and electricity sector, despite seasonal rains, indicated a progression of economic activity. “Overall, the recovery in the infrastructure industries appears to be ticking off on a pervasive note which bodes well for the private sector capex cycle which Ind-Ra believes is at the cusp of a pickup,” said Paras Jasrai and Sunil K Sinha, economists at Ind-Ra. On Friday, another data released by the government showed GDP growth rising to a four-quarter high of 7.8% on the back of rising consumption and sustained capex. Economists pointed out that a private capex revival was necessary for India to sustain growth momentum.
