Labour ministry to come up with a social security policy for gig, platform workers
platform workers by February next year and will launch a module on the e-Shram portal on Monday to facilitate enrollment of platform workers by their aggregators. The ministry is considering all options, including issuing a unique Id to all gig workers and enabling transaction based contribution by aggregators towards the social security benefits to gig workers, an official source said on Thursday. “The ministry hopes to put in place a policy to give social security to all platform workers before the Union Budget next year,” the source said, adding the benefits could include health security and pension security.

Elon Musk's empire risks being targeted by EU for potential X fines

Under the EU’s Digital Services Act, the bloc can slap online platforms with fines of as much as 6% of their yearly global revenue for failing to tackle illegal content and disinformation or follow transparency rules. Regulators are considering whether sales from SpaceX, Neuralink, xAI and the Boring Company, in addition to revenue generated from the social network, should be included to determine potential fines against X, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be identified because the information isn’t public. The European Commission has been investigating X for several potential breaches of the Digital Services Act, newly introduced rules meant to ensure platforms police illegal content. The EU is leading a global crackdown on harmful online content and disinformation that’s sparked increasingly vocal responses from Musk, who has said such measures restrict free speech.

‘Kanda Trains’ to help ease onion prices before Diwali
onion prices before Diwali, the government has decided to flood markets across the country with onions disposing from its buffer stocks. For the first time it will transport the kitchen essential by railway rakes to major consumption centers and states. It will also sell onions via ecommerce platforms such as Zepto, private retail stores such as Reliance Retail and Safal. The government will also be selling onions in the retail market through Kendriya Bhandars and mobile vans. Onion prices ruled close to Rs 100 per kg in retail across major several large consumption centres compelling the government to offload from its own stocks in the retail market at subsidized price of Rs 35 per kilo starting last month.

The ruling by Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, emphasises the importance of judicial integrity. The court stated, «We are of the view that the description of the order and the judge is prima facie contemptuous and amounts to interference in proceedings.» Senior advocate Akhil Sibal, representing Wikipedia, clarified that the platform did not create either the critical page or the discussion section. ZEE5, the streaming platform from Zee Entertainment, is prioritising family-friendly content, enhancing its technology, and optimising costs through efficient content production to expand its business while minimising losses, according to a senior executive. This strategy has enabled the platform to increase both advertising and subscription revenue while reducing expenses. It expects the advertising business to pick up once the ad rate correction occurs in the industry and Connected TV (CTV) numbers increase. On the subscription side, it has partnered with Vodafone Idea and is in advanced discussions with Bharti Airtel. In the quarter ending in June, ZEE5 reduced its operating loss by 48% to ₹177 crore, while revenue grew by 16% to ₹223 crore. Over the 12 months ending in March, revenue increased by 24% to ₹919 crore, although the operating loss remained steady at ₹1,105 crore.
