Hallmark wellness show country Department prevention Features How to check purity of gold jewellery? Three signs to check for hallmarking
Hallmarking of gold jewellery became mandatory on June 16, 2021. The government then revised hallmarking signs on July 1, 2021. Further, on April 1, 2023, it said jewellers cannot sell any gold jewellery unless it has a 6-digit Hallmark Unique Identification or HUID number. Hallmarking of gold jewellery in India is done by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The certification from the BIS confirms that the gold is of a particular purity. Hallmarking of gold ensures buyers get a proportionate content of gold in a jewellery and also saves them from unscrupulous sellers. It also acts as certification of purity of gold in a piece of jewellery.
