Progressive country reports recommendations Defence research budget insufficient to make India global power: Parliamentary panel
allocation in the Union budget is insufficient for India's aspirations to be a global leader, a parliamentary panel has observed, recommending that the budget should be doubled over the coming years. FIVE Reuters Progressive economy reports travelers Grocery price hikes slow for 5th straight month in November
inflation rate held steady at 3.1 per cent in November, Statistics Canada said Tuesday, amid a “broad-based” easing in grocery price hikes. Some economists had expected a decline in the headline inflation figure, but StatCan said higher prices on travel tours and elevated housing costs kept the annual rate steady.Rents were up 7.4 per cent year-over-year — down from the previous month — and mortgage interest costs rose nearly 30 per cent annually, the agency noted.A 26.1 per cent jump in the prices for travel tours last month was offset by drops in the cost of cellular services, which StatCan said related to Black Friday deals in November.Gas prices were down last month but to a lesser extent than October, which the agency said put upward pressure on the monthly inflation figure. A drop in the price of fuel oil helped to reduce price pressures in the month, with StatCan noting the Liberal government’s temporary suspension of the federal carbon levy on home heating oil “contributed to the decline.”November was the fifth straight month that food inflation slowed, the agency noted, with grocery prices rising 4.7 per cent annually in the month.StatCan said that the easing at the grocery store was “broad-based,” with price hikes on every component in the grocery basket cooling from October’s increases.

Digital Progressive CEO Entertainment Sony Freshly adding Zee stock slightly risky at this point of time: Karan Taurani
Karan Taurani, Senior VP, Elara Securities, says “we believe that over the next two days, we will get clarity in terms of where that is heading. Otherwise, if the extension is sought for, the extension could be for three to four months and that would primarily be for the regulatory approvals which is from the MIB side, maybe a fresh approval with the ROC side for the new CEO, some kind of shareholder approval for the new CEO. It will not require any big regulatory hurdle in terms of a fresh NCLT approval because NCLT approval is not time-bound. Let us just get in a view because there has been so much flip-flop. Just last week, there was a request by Zee Entertainment to extend that deadline. What exactly is the implication of Sony Pictures saying that this triggers an existing contractual provision in the deal? This does not mean that by any means it is being called off? Yes, absolutely. Zee sought an extension on the deal and Sony has failed to agree on the same. This is one thing that the likelihood of the deal getting called off remains to be low primarily because of this reason. Because if the deal was to be called off, this kind of extension would not have been sought. Now, what we believe is that negotiations are ongoing between both the parties and we believe that Mr Punit Goenka wanting to be the CEO could be a potential roadblock here in terms of the merger going through, in terms of Sony wanting or not wanting an extension.
