National Science Day is celebrated across India on February 28 to honor the discovery of the Raman Effect by physicist Sir CV Raman in 1928. The Raman Effect is the inelastic scattering of light by molecules, a discovery that earned Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian to receive the prestigious award in any branch of science. History of National Science Day In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) proposed to the Government of India that February 28 be designated as National Science Day. Since 1987, this day has been celebrated to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect and to promote scientific temper in the country.

G20 finance ministers will meet Wednesday in Brazil, seeking ways to shore up a global economy whose nascent recovery is threatened by a raft of conflicts and crises, including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Oil prices slipped in early Asian trade on Wednesday as the prospect of a delayed U.S. rate cutting cycle offset the boost provided by talk of extensions to production cuts from OPEC+. Brent crude futures fell 38 cents, or 0.45%, to $83.27 a barrel by 0110 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures (WTI) were down 35 cents, or 0.44%, to $78.52 a barrel.

NEW DELHI : Roche Pharma India, a subsidiary of the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche, has launched monoclonal antibody drug, Ocrevus (ocrelizumab) in India for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The company said Ocrevus is the first disease-modifying therapy (DMT) for both relapsing multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) and targets 150,000-200,000 patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in India. The drug is being launched in India after almost seven years of it being approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for global use.

Uttarakhand Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal on Tuesday presented the state's budget of Rs 89.23 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2024-25. Finance Minister Agarwal presented the budget in the assembly in the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In his address, Finance Minister Premchand Aggarwal outlined the key principles underlying the budget, emphasizing the concept of «pioneering Uttarakhand.»

Talking to the media here after interacting with Navy veterans, Hari Kumar said the Indian Navy has achieved great heights through indigenisation and could manufacture 33 submarines and 63 ships on its own. «Our aim is to become completely atmanirbhar by 2047, and by then all the submarines, aircraft and weapons will be made in India,» the Navy Chief said. He said 75 challenges were given to the industry and received a great response from the industry. «Some of them have already got into a contract and some products have already been inducted. A lot of innovative technology and products are being developed,» Hari Kumar said.

In a consultation paper published today (27 February), the regulator set out a number of proposals for a new approach to publicising enforcement investigations.
