Cloudburst strikes Himachal again; property damaged, national highway blocked
Shimla district damaged a school, two houses and agricultural land, while the National Highway 5 near Jhakri and Joeri regions was blocked due to a landslide, officials said on Wednesday. Sub Divisional Magistrate, Rampur, Nishant Tomar said as many as 17 sheep and goats were swept away following the cloudburst in Kandhar village in Sarpara panchayat on Tuesday. Tomar, who was on his way to the affected village, was also stranded due to the inclement weather.

Edible oil prices declined over the year, providing relief to consumers: Minister
New Delhi: Minister of state for consumer affairs, food and public distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Wednesday said prices of refined sunflower oil, refined soybean oil, and RBD palmolien have declined significantly over the past year, bringing much-needed respite to consumers amid economic challenges. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister said retail prices of refined sunflower oil witnessed an impressive decrease of 29.04% over the past year. Similarly, refined soybean oil prices declined 18.98%, while RBD palmolien prices dropped 25.43% during the same period.

New Delhi: The National Coal Index (NCI) fell a significant 33.8% year-on-year to 157.7 points in May, in an indication that supplies in the country remain sufficient. “The National Coal Index (NCI) has shown a significant decline of 33.8% in May 2023 at 157.7 points compared to May 2022, where it was at 238.3 points, which indicates a strong supply of coal in the market, with sufficient availability to meet the growing demands," the coal ministry said in a statement. Similarly, NCI for non-coking coal declined 34.3% on year to 147.5 points in May.
