Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday questioned the Centre's 'Make in India' project and alleged that GST and demonetisation were used as weapons to clear roads for business tycoons like Adani and Ambani. Addressing an election rally in support of Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance candidates from 11 assembly segments of Jammu district, Gandhi accused the BJP of using central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) to browbeat opponents. The Jammu district along with six other districts is going to polls in the third and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir elections on October 1. «They (BJP) are talking about 'Make in India' and the defence industry but the reality is that all the contracts are going to people like Adani. Claimed 87A tax rebate for STCG in your ITR? You may get tax demand notice
Tax rebate under section 87A of the Income-tax Act, 1961 is a benefit that reduces the total income tax liability of an eligible taxpayer. The eligibility criteria are that the taxpayer's income should be below a set threshold and not having certain types of income. For example, one of the criteria for tax rebate under section 87A is to have an income below Rs 5 lakh (old tax regime) or Rs 7 lakh (new tax regime). However, following an update in the ITR filing utility on July 5, 2024, chartered accountants say that many taxpayers were denied the benefit of tax rebate under section 87A if they had certain special rate incomes like short-term capital gains (STCG). STCG on equity shares or equity-oriented mutual funds were taxable at 15% rate under Section 111A which was raised to 20% in Budget 2024 presented in July this year.

Elon Musk, X seek dismissal of Don Lemon's lawsuit over canceled partnership
Elon Musk and X asked a federal judge to dismiss former CNN anchor Don Lemon's lawsuit claiming they defrauded him by canceling a partnership on the social media platform following a contentious interview. In a Monday night filing in San Francisco federal court, Musk said he did nothing wrong by allegedly telling Lemon there was «no need» to sign a contract, and that he and X would give Lemon «full authority and control» over his work even if they did not like his views. Musk called it unreasonable for Lemon to rely on a vague statement that a written contract was unnecessary for a multimillion-dollar partnership.

How wearing lipstick turned a woman duffedar's job nightmarish
S B Madhavi, the first woman duffedar in the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), has found herself at the centre of a controversy after she was transferred from the mayor's office to the far-off Manali zone. At 50, Madhavi, who had been ceremonially engaged to accompany Chennai mayor R Priya, claims she was shunted out for wearing lipstick, disobeying a direct order not to do so, TOI has reported. The situation escalated after Madhavi received a memo on August 6 from the mayor's personal assistant, Siva Sankar, citing “dereliction of duty, not coming to work during working hours, and disobeying orders of seniors” as reasons for her transfer. In her response, Madhavi questioned the accusations and specifically addressed the issue of her lipstick.

When I said 75% dispute sorted out, it's only of disengagement: EAM Jaishankar on India-China border standoff
Jaishankar, said that when he said that 75 per cent of the border dispute between the two countries have been sorted, he is only talking about the 'disengagement' part, while adding that challenge persists in other aspects. Unclaimed Child Trust Funds of £2,212 might be lost by almost 670,000 young people.
unclaimed Child Trust Funds worth £2,212 apiece. The unclaimed Child Trust Funds (CTFs) of almost 670,000 young people between the ages of 18 and 22 are being urged to be claimed; HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) reports that the average account balance is £2,212. The government created these savings accounts for children born between September 1, 2002, and January 2, 2011, intending to give young individuals a head start on their finances. But many are still unclaimed. Every eligible kid can open a kid trust fund, which is a long-term, tax-free savings account. The government sets aside £250 for each account at first. Over time, some guardians or parents may have contributed more money to these accounts. Even though the funds are kept in banks, building societies, or other financial organizations, young people may manage their accounts starting at age 16 and take money out when their account matures, which happens when they reach 18.
