labour ministry has directed the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation to engage with employers and employees’ associations and nudge them to enroll workers under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) schemes announced in the Budget.
Labour secretary Sumita Dawra on Wednesday held a meeting with EPFO officials on the ELI schemes as EPFO is the implementing body for the three schemes to be administered by the ministry of labour and employment.
“The labour secretary stressed on the need for the field officers to fully understand the various provisions of the scheme and to hold regular interactions with employers’ and employees’ associations to give the required push to the scheme,” the ministry said in a statement issued after the meeting.
“It was stressed that the EPFO officers should own the scheme in true spirit and make all out efforts for advocacy of the scheme to give the scheme the desired impetus,” it added.
According to the statement issued by the ministry, EPFO conducted a country-wide consultation with all its zonal and regional offices on the ELI schemes to gather their feedback obtained from extensive consultations they have held with various stakeholder bodies, associations and with EPFO’s existing employers on the various aspects of the scheme.
