Macquarie cheques into EV finance in India with $400 mn
Australian financial services firm Macquarie is looking to enter the credit space in India by launching a non-banking financial company (NBFC) as part of an electric vehicle (EV) platform it is planning to set up in the country. The NBFC will help commercial fleet operators avail credit and address a major gap in India’s EV ambitions, two people aware of the matter said. Macquarie will soon apply for a licence with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the two people said.

In a first, LIC plays anchor for Nabard's infra bond sale
LIC), the country's biggest institutional holder of marketable securities, is officially an anchor investor for an upcoming bond sale by the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (Nabard), marking the first such occurrence in India's corporate debt market. Investment documents seen by ET showed that LIC is the anchor investor for the ₹5,000-crore infrastructure bond sale by Nabard on December 20. Besides the base, the issuer also has a green shoe option of ₹5,000 crore.

China Earthquake: Over 100 killed, 200 injured after 6.2 magnitude quake hit Gansu-Qinghai border region
magnitude earthquake that occurred just before midnight on Monday in a mountainous region in northwestern China, the country's state media reported today. The official Xinhua News Agency, as quoted by The Associated Press, said that 100 people died in the province of Gansu and another 11 in the neighboring province of Qinghai in the quake. More than 200 people were injured in Gansu and Qinghai provinces, said Xinhua, adding that the quake struck in Gansu's Jishishan county, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the provincial boundary with Qinghai.

The market cap of NHPC, the largest of the three, which was around ₹44,157.97 crore at the time, has since grown to ₹66,377.59 crore.
