Minority shareholders are expected to benefit from the demerger of ITC's hotel business into a separate entity, ITC Hotels, as it may unlock value for them and improve return ratios of the FMCG major, as per reports of four proxy advisory firms. The reports from proxy advisory firms, including InGovern Research Services, ISS and SES, come ahead of the June 6 meeting of shareholders of ITC to consider and approve the demerger proposal. According to proxy advisory firm ISS, the demerger may unlock value for its shareholders and improve ITC's return ratios.

New railway line to connect Noida Airport with Palwal and Chola for connectivity to Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai
regional connectivity, a new 60 km railway line has been proposed between Chola in Bulandshahr and Rundhi in Palwal. This line aims to link Noida International Airport with major routes to Howrah, Chennai, and Mumbai, a TOI report stated. Officials from North Central Railway have recommended connecting the proposed tracks to the airport’s ground transportation center through an underground channel. The new line will have junctions at Chola, merging with the Delhi-Howrah line, and Rundhi, extending to the Delhi-Chennai/Mumbai route. This strategic alignment will facilitate trains from the airport to travel in multiple directions.

income tax department on Tuesday asked taxpayers to link PAN with Aadhaar by May 31 to avoid tax deduction at a higher rate. As per income tax rules, if a Permanent Account Number (PAN) is not linked with biometric Aadhaar, TDS is required to be deducted at double the applicable rate. Last month, the income tax department issued a circular stating that no action will be taken for short deduction of TDS in case the assessee links his/her PAN with Aadhaar by May 31. «Please link your PAN with Aadhaar before May 31, 2024, if you haven't already, in order to avoid tax deduction at a higher rate,» the department posted on X.

Incessant rains disrupt life in Kerala, submerge Kochi roads
life. Many narrow lanes and busy roads in Kochi and adjacent areas were submerged due to continuous downpour since early morning. People could not venture out of their homes in many areas of the port city as roads were flooded. Vehicles were seen moving at snail's pace on highways following the rains. Normal life was hit in the Kakkanad-Infopark and Aluva-Edappally areas due to waterlogging. The city and rural areas of the capital district of Thiruvananthapuram witnessed heavy rains since Monday night. Trees were uprooted and streams were overflowing in villages of Thiruvananthapuram district. In nearby Neyyattinkara, a house was severely damaged after an uprooted tree fell on it during heavy rains accompanied by winds. Nedumangadu, Neyyattinkara, Kattakkada, and Amboori areas, located in the high ranges of the district, received widespread rainfall. According to locals, a portion of a hill behind the famous Bali mandapam at Papanasam in nearby Varkala caved in because of heavy rains. The eco-tourism centre in hill station Ponmudi was closed following bad weather.
