Centre eyes dedicated R&D wing under semicon research centre
government is planning a dedicated research and development (R&D) wing under the proposed India Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC) that will focus on semiconductor research which can «quickly go into industrial production», sources told ET. «There is a need for both the private and public sector, especially in the semiconductor space to have full-time R&D personnel. The idea is to create an intellectual property right (IPR) driven manufacturing ecosystem. We might look at creating a structure where some of the R&D can be co-funded or in PPP mode,» a senior government official said.

New oral diabetes + obesity drug's India sales surge 100%
Novo Nordisk's oral semaglutide tablet, branded Rybelsus, is gaining popularity in India though doctors have cautioned against indiscriminate use of the drug approved for treating diabetes and also for weight reduction. Sales of the drug have more than doubled in the past year to ₹363 crore in April from ₹147 crore a year earlier, showed data from market researcher Pharmarack. Touted as a game changer for treating Type 2 diabetes, Rybelsus was launched in an oral form in India in 2022. The pill is marketed in three strengths (3, 7 and 14 mg), and is priced at about ₹10,000 a month.

IIT-Madras raises ₹513 crore from alumni, other donors in FY24

India F24 GDP growth likely hit 8%, to grow 7% in FY25: CEA Nageswaran
NEW DELHI : India's economy likely expanded at 8% through fiscal year 2024 (FY24), and growth in the current year is projected at 7%, V Anantha Nageswaran, chief economic adviser to the government, said on Wednesday. Speaking at an event organized by think tank National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Nageswaran said that for the Indian economy to register 7% or higher growth for the fourth consecutive year in FY25, “a lot would depend on the monsoons." "Right now, the expectations are that we will have an above-normal monsoon. But, spatial and temporal distribution (of rainfall) will matter," he said.

IIT Madras raises 513 crore from alumni, corporates and donors in FY 23-24
IIT-M) on Wednesday said it has raised Rs 513 crore in funding—more than double what was raised last year—from its alumni, industry and individual donors during 2023-24. The alumni did most of the heavy lifting, contributing Rs 368.19 crore, followed by the CSR segment contributing Rs 95.53 crore, with the rest coming from other sources. Additionally, the institute has attracted total new pledges worth Rs. 717.8 crore from alumni and corporate partners during FY24. The alumni have pledged Rs 455.6 crore whereas the CSR segment has pledged Rs 262.2 crore.
